Volleyball encouraged to keep working head to the playoffs Girls golf prep for final league match The Varsity Volleyball team has improved greatly since their beginning of the season. Although the team faced some serious losses in the start of the season, recent wins have encouraged the many improvements even from last season. "We work better as a team and spend more time bonding." Sarah explains. Their following match was against Pleasant Valley where they also faced a loss of 3-0. With two losses in a row, Cantrell explains "The team was expected to win more games", team player Katie Gallagher also agrees "it's not what we want because we're not winning, we start off strong but we get into our heads and it turns into a mental game." It wasn't until recently where a home game on October 8, Red Bluff beat the Enterprise Hornets with a final score of 3-0. Sarah Cantrell explains "With this recent win we hope this will encourage us to continue winning our games." When asked what they expect for the remainder of the season, Kennedy SomavĂa responded with "I look forward for the team to grow together. As long as we play as a team and keep pushing hard we hope to win more games." Katie Gallagher responded with "We are improving by communicating on the court with each other and trusting each other. We will continue to put up a fight when competing with the other teams in hope of getting more wins." The Varsity Volleyball team continues to work hard and prepare for their game played last Tuesday against Paradise at Paradise High School as well as Shasta who they just played last night at home. With these a couple more last games to finish up their season, the team will continue to improve in order to hopefully advance onto playoffs which begin in November. Varsity team to keep working hard and progressing in their improvements. On October first, Red Bluff lost against Foothill 3-0 which was "A little discouraging" team member Sarah Cantrell said. Cantrell, although, has noticed Mary Hererra Staff Writer The Red Bluff High School Freshman football team is off to a shaky start this year, losing an- other heartbreaker against Chico by a score of 26-24 last Thursday. However, not all is lost, as the team is continually improving and closing the margin of their games, losing on a mistake here or there. Even these simple errors are becoming less common, as Dylan Caylor, a FS and SS explained, "The team is making fewer mental mistakes every game now, not blowing assignments or blocks, dropping passes etc. We've also began to capitalize on some of the opportunities that we've had all season long." This is obviously a good sign for the future as they wrap their season up. As a group, the play- ers are excited to go forward into their J.V..... year together, be- cause of how they have improved week-in and week-out. With a strong showing against Chico, the team feels confident that they can end on a high note, as Lane Garrett, a RB and SS, said, "The last game is the best team performance that we've had all year." While the season hasn't gone to plan so far, the team has grown closer, as Quentin Oliver, an of- fensive lineman, shared, "We are gradually improving every week, the offense is hold- ing their blocks which is helping the rushing game. " With the team on this prom- ising uphill tick, it should be a good rest of the season according to Wesley Rocha, a WR and DE, who says, "We want everybody to come out and watch our last game here against Pleasant Valley and see how we compete." The team has a bye week this week, followed by a game at En- terprise on October 29. This year's 2015 RBHS's Varsity Tennis team is coming to a close with a three way tie between Red Bluff High School, Pleasant Valley High School and Chico High School. The winner will be between the three teams determined to win in the upcoming playoffs. They have an overall record of eleven wins and two losses. The Lady Spartans have a league record ten wins and two losses, so far this 2015 tennis season. In order to defeat these tough teams the girls tennis team needs to, "Play as aggressively as we can and we need to make sure our doubles teams are as strong as they can," said Megan Boone. When asked what are the teams strengths when it comes to playing on the court, Boone replied, "I would have to say we are really good at doubles because of the partner's Coach Poulton put us with, we are good with volleying and at the baseline and work really well Abby O'Sullivan Staff Writer Shania RBHS girls tennis football look forward to J.V. season The Red Bluff High School Girls Golf team is over half- way done with their season and are now preparing for the final League Championship match. The Girls Golf team is currently third in the league following their last match which was played on October 8 against Chico, Para- dise, Enterprise, Pleasant Val- ley, Shasta and Foothill. Each team brings six girls to compete against each other which placed the Red Bluff Girls Golf in third in the league. Their following match was played yesterday at Bidwell Park Golf Course where they will play the same six teams again. They are using these matches to prepare themselves for the League Champions which will take place on Octo- ber 27. When asked for the other ways that the team is prepar- ing, Poole responded,"We are practicing a lot more by instead of practicing Tuesday through Thursday, we now practice Tuesday through Friday in hopes of bettering our playing skills." This only pushes us to work harder so we can hope- fully come out on top." With the final matches ap- proaching, Poole is looking for- ward to "getting first place in League Champions and head- ing to sections." Poole hopes to win it all over again in League Champions and hopefully place at Sections this year. RBHS's Taylor Bell goes in for a return volley during practice. with each other. When Coach Poulton was asked about the team's strengths he responded with, "hard working players and depth."
