U-Jam Fitness was created in January of 2010 by Susy C and Matt Marks and the program has changed the way people think of "working out". Usually, when fitness comes to people's minds they think of going to the gym and lifting weights, but U-Jam is an athletic hip-hop dance workout alongside with high energy music that makes for an exhilarating fitness experience. They have easy-to-follow dances that anyone at any level can do with world beats like Bollywood, Hip Hop, Jazz, and Korean Pop. In U-Jam Fitness the choreography and music remains the same so if you travel or move to another town or even state, you do not have to worry about learning new choreography with new music. U-Jam Fitness has an instructor workshop where anyone can become an instructor if they pass, and that is where Educational Assistant, Rosie Phillips, comes in. When asked about how she got her start in U-Jam Fitness, Phillips replied with, "I first saw a U-Jam demo at a two hour Zumba event back in Feb of 2012 when former U-Jam instructor Lynda Gray, and her Chico U-Jam students demoed their format, I was blown away. I instantly fell in love with it!" U-Jam is a great way to stay active and keep unwanted calories off, claiming that a person can burn up to 1000 calories per class. U-Jam is unique and, in a way, it makes U-Jam Fitness transforms mundane workout sessions into doable exhilerating experiences Autumn Styles fall in for the cold Student Government indroduces Lip Sync Battle to RBHS more kids to be involved in high school e v e n t s . This Red Bluff High School event will take place in the PAC from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. When asked about how the idea of a Lip Sync battle was formed Somavia replied, "I was watching Jimmy Fallon over the summer with my son and about why she loves this program. She is currently teaching 3 classes every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 6:45pm, located at 12881 Baker Road at Vitality Yoga and Healing Arts Studio in Red Bluff. She encourages anyone who wants to lose weight or stay healthy to come and experience the U-Jam program for themselves, because who knows, U-Jam might change your life too. people feel like they are on a team. "I grew up being active in cheerleading for 9 years, and was a coach for 13 years. When I found U-Jam I found it to be similar to the feel of being on a team, the spirit, love and unity. In high school I was at my heaviest weight, I took charge of my health, and lost 75lbs and have kept it off for 21 years," Phillips said when she was asked Boys Girls The PSAT was recently held at Red Bluff High School on Wednesday, October 14 in the PAC. What is the PSAT? For students who heard about the PSAT and are considering taking it in the future, it is basically a condensed version of the SAT. A "practice" SAT is what many students call this test. The PSAT is scheduled once a year in October. \ It is intended to be taken during one's junior year of high school; however, sophomores are highly recommended to take this exam as well. The test is divided into three different sections that consists of Critical Reading, Math, and Writing Skills. The main difference between the SAT and the PSAT, besides the obvious, is that the PSAT has no essay. For each component, the scores will range from 20 to 80, with the total score range being 60 to 240. Therefore, the PSAT scores are presented on a different scale; instead of the test being scored on the 200- 800 scale, they're on the 20-80 scale. Another difference between the two exams is that the SAT is much longer than the PSAT due to the essay section. One benefit from taking the PSAT, is that the PSAT is also known as the NMSQT, the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The scores of the test will be used to identify students who will receive the National Merit Scholarship. The questions on the PSAT are similar to those on the SAT. According to the College Board website regarding the PSAT/ NMSQT, the PSAT puts less of an emphasis on Algebra II due to the age group of those taking the PSAT and those who are taking the actual SAT. The PSAT is known as one of the most efficient ways of preparing for the SAT. Not only does it give you the opportunity to apply for a scholarship, but it also gives you a chance for preparation and to build one's confidence when the SAT comes around. You can take the PSAT at Red Bluff High School as a sophomore or a junior. However, many students take it in their senior year as well. Julia Liebert Staff Writer judged on different criteria." Mrs. Somavia went on to say, "There will be a fifty dollar cash prize for the winning act, and they will also be receiving a trophy." The rules for the event are as follows: you can have a solo act or you can do a group act. The teams can sing any genre they would like. The Lip Sync Battle is a great addition to Red Bluff High School because it brings kids out of there shell and to perform in front of others. Abby O'Sullivan Staff Writer Button up long sleeve shirts, plain or patterned are in for fall fashion this year. Joggers in a variety of dif- ferent colors and patterns are trendy this year. Patterned Vans add style to any plain outfit. Oversized knit sweaters are fashionable for fall, especially the burn-out orange color. Light washed ripped jeans are a must this season. Dis- tress in jeans adds a dash of shabby chic. Ankle boots add style and class to a boring outfit.
