The theme will be "The American Dream". The competition is open for residents of Cleveland County and students in the Cleveland County school system and there will be cash prizes for 1st 3rd , 2nd divisions. and place in both adult and student "The competition is taking its cue from the "I Have a Dream" speech given by Dr. King in Washington, D.C. on August 28, 1963," said Ellis Noell, Special Events Director for the City. "We are encouraging young and old to share their vision of the American dream and believe that this subject matter will provide great latitude in artistic interpreta- tion", added Noell. Photographic prints will be accepted or submissions can be made digitally through submission of a disk mailed or dropped off at City Hall or e-mailed to. ellisn@ cityofkm.com Deadline for sub- mission is Friday, 5:00PM, January 13, 2012. Eligibility and rules are available at the City's website, www.cityofkm.com or by calling Lynda Mattox at 704-734-0333. The exhibit and reception with the entrants will open January 16th at Kings Mountain City Hall lobby at 6:00PM. The lobby will serve as the gallery for all the submitted photographs with win- ners announced at 7:00PM. The exhibit will be in the City Hall lobby in January and move to the Patrick Center in February for Black History month. The event is produced in cooperation with the Cleveland County NAACP. A fashion show by: Fashion Corner, Hi-Lites, and Two Doors Down featured Hospice Volunteers modeling the latest casual, business, and dressy fashions. Lallage Carouthers was recognized for her years of service and dedica- tion to Hospice. She won the ring, along with a carriage ride and and dinner for two at Smoke on the Square, through a fundraiser, sponsored by Hospice-Cleveland County. This year 79 associates from Wal-Mart Distribution Center #6070 worked over 259 hours to clean up litter from roadways and neighborhoods in this community. The volunteer effort of these associates also financially benefits the community through the Volunteerism Always Pays Program, sponsored by the Wal-Mart Foundation. Based on this yearís number of associates and their hours worked as volunteers, a $5,000 donation has been made to Keep Shelby Beautiful from the Wal-Mart Foundation. This donation will be used by Keep Shelby Beautiful to continue litter reduction, beautification and recycling programs in 2012.
