The celebration honors all veterans age 55 and above for their service and sacrifi ce to our great nation. The 2011 Veterans' Celebration will be held at the Neal Senior Center on November 10, 2011 at 11:30 am. Thanks to the wonderful generosity of the Dover Foundation the event is free for all veterans. Veterans' guests may enjoy all the activities for $7.50. Tickets are on sale at the Senior Center. Reservations are not complete until tickets have been picked up. "The Pie Ladies" Boy how time flies. Annual Neal Center Membership Dinner Theatre It seems like only yesterday that the Neal Senior Center Players presented "The Last Day at W.O.R.K." and "bam" suddenly it's time for their lat- est endeavor, "The Pie Ladies," a comedy about a group of church ladies who bake the pies for the annual Church Dinner. Mayhem and chaos ensue and the ladies decide to form their own country, which will celebrate the best of the past and the best of the present. Written by Sherry Piros, this amusing work is directed by Rebecca M. Reger and is performed by the Neal Center Players with special permis- sion by the "ArtAge Senior Theatre Resource Center at www.seniortheatre.com, 800-858-4998." On October 27, 2011, the evening begins with a pre- dinner reception at 5:30 pm. Enjoy a glass or two of our "Cherry" cocktails before you segue to the baking room for a substantial pre-pie meal. The meal of meatloaf, green bean casserole, creamed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw and bread with a choice of tea or coffee, bread and homemade pie will be served at precisely 6:00 pm. Immediately following din- ner we'll see what The Pie Ladies are baking. "The Pie Ladies" is presented by the Neal Senior Center Players in honor of all contributing members of the Council on Aging/Senior Center. All current $50 annual members will get to attend this incredible evening of fine dining and one-act theatrical experience for free; $25 annual mem- bers will receive a reduced price and can attend for $6 per member. Remember at any price you get a great deal on dinner, along with a quality theatrical performance by your peers as well as party favors. Contributing memberships are available for a minimum contribution of $25 and may be purchased at the Neal Senior Center located at 100 TR Harris Drive, Shelby, NC 28150 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. The public (non-Senior Center contributing members) is invited to enjoy all the festivities as well for the low cost of $15 for individuals or $25 for couples. Isn't it amazing how 2011 sprouted wings and has flown by? The holidays are knocking at the door. It's hard to believe how slowly Christmas came when we were children. Now it pops up in the blink of an eye. Since the holidays are so rapidly approaching, you will want to note that Cleveland County's best Holiday Bazaar/Flea Market is scheduled for Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Council on Aging/Senior Center located at 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby, NC 28150. The bazaar and flea market will begin at 8:00 am and end at 3:00 pm on Friday, November 4th. The Holiday Bazaar is open to the public and all ages' are welcome to shop or eat until they drop. The Senior Center's famous mouth-watering country ham biscuits or plain biscuits as well as pinto plates (lunch) will be on sale so your tummy doesn't rumble or grumble while you shop. Bulk biscuit orders are also available during the Holiday Bazaar to area businesses and individuals, but you need to make sure to place your orders early (no later than 5 pm on November 1, 2011) by calling Mary Hamrick at the Senior Center at 704-482-3488. A wide array of vendors offering homemade/hand-made merchandise and gift ideas as well as flea market items will be on hand at the Senior Center to help you get a jump-start on your holiday shopping. Interested vendors should call Lisa Abernethy, 704-482- 3488 to reserve a table(s). There is a limit of 2 tables per ven- dor (first come, first serve basis).
