FISHING REPORT FISHING REPOR Kosa The retirees fish Lake Hickory last week and had better results than in previous visits, cooler weather will do that for you. Dean Champion and Ken Johnson had 8.95 and picked up the win. Larry Melton and George Crosswhite had 6.80 and were sec- ond. Close behind in third was David O'Shields and Doug Sparrow with 6.45. Mack Wyatt and Johnny Christainberry had big bass of the day with a 3.0 largemouth. This week the old timers head to Lake Norman. Moss Thirteen boats fished the weekly bass tournament on Moss Lake last Thursday night. Scott Yarbro and Nathan White left the friendly banks of the carp lake to take on Moss. They grabbed the win with 6.8 and had big bass with a 2.12 largemouth. Walt Brysick and Charles Bridges settled in second with 3.2. Chris Edwards and Donnie Beason were close on their heels with 3.1. Brian and Cody Hoyle took fourth with 2.12 and fifth went to Ronnie Humphries with 1.90. Arnold says he will continue with the night tournaments into mid October. The fish-off will be October 15 from 8-2. CCBC The Cleveland County Bass Club will fish their September event on Lake Norman this weekend from 7-3. Hopefully I can get a points rundown after that event. If anyone has any suggestions on stories or pictures of their catch or kill, you can e-mail me at plail5@carolina.rr.com. CAMPERS/RVs 6 AEROLITE 26' travel tr CAMPERS/RVs By Gary Miller By I spent Saturday morning with about eight other friends and acquaintances, hunting deer. My mood was still melan- choly because of the unseasonably warm weather, but the company and camarade- rie made up for it. Our group was made up of the young and old, the experienced and the novice, and those who just came along for the ride. There was only one doe taken that day, but we agreed to gather up again in a few days to do it all again. The next trip may include an overnight stay at the house that's on the property, along with a big campfi re, and perhaps some fresh tenderloin. It sounds like my kind of hunting trip. Many hunters like to go on these overnight stays. Around here our Wildlife Management Area is about an hour away, but it allows those who are drawn to come and stay at their camp- ground while hunting. For most of us, this is as much fun as the hunt itself – just hanging out with the guys. What I have noticed, however, over the years is the tendency that some have to try too hard to be a part of the group. Their ef- fort shows up usually by fi nding what they perceive to be, a common punching bag. It may involve politics, religion, or even race, and they think if they can bash a group or people they'll be accepted. To me, it's just a sign of immaturity and ignorance. And it also shows the insecurities of those who have to fi nd something or someone 1999 FOUR WINNS HORIZON 170 boat. 17ft, 4.3 liter Volvo engine, 191 HP, excellent condi- tion, trailer, 2 covers, 2 pr skis, 2 floats, ropes & 8 life jackets, knee board & stereo, $7890. 704-487-0310. UR WINNS H BOATS EARLY SUCCESS Glassing known areas where deer feed late in the summer should produce some good buck sightings. Once you have spotted a buck you would like to hunt, patience will be important to early success. Remember, during this time a buck's world revolves around feeding patterns. Because of this, he will likely show himself often in his favorite feeding areas for the first week of the season and during legal shooting hours. Watch the feeding area from a safe distance until you have a good idea about how to move in closer for the shot. Remember, the path you take to and from your stand is crucial to remaining undetected for any length of time. You will probably only get a few good hunts in before the buck realizes you are after him and changes his pattern. Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ oward Christ to tear down in order to, somehow, make them look good. It makes me sick. A wise man once said, "Reputation is what man thinks you are. Character is what God knows you are." Our character is who we are when no one is looking. And our character must be built not on traditions and on a bad experience, but on the truth of the Scriptures. Now this little column that I do will go out to many publications in several states. It will be read by a few people. And just in case anybody wonders where I stand, let me tell you……….. I believe that I'm a better person than my enemies think I am, and a worse per- son than my friends think. I believe that bad people, at times, do good things, and good people, at times, do bad things. I be- lieve that anything that I am or that I have is only by the grace of God and not by any merit of mine. I believe God loves every- one. As we used to sing as a child, "Red, yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight." And if they are precious in His sight, they will be precious in my sight as well. And lastly, I believe that I would rather have fewer readers than to give up the things I believe, for more. www.outdoortruths.or JUST IN TIME FOR FISHING! 21 ft SunTracker Fishing Barge, Signature series w/Trailstar 610 trailer.
