As the population ages, older Americans will play an increasingly important role in our economy and America's leader- ship in the world marketplace. National Employ Older Workers Week recognizes the vital role of older workers in the workforce. Senior workers are responsible, talented, experienced and qual- ified--and they are a growing force in the U.S. labor market. By 2014, 41% of Americans 55 or older will be employed, making up over 21% of the U.S. labor force. The Committee on Economic Development indicates that employers rate older workers high on characteristics such as judgment, commitment to quality, attendance, and punctuality. National Employ Older Workers Week aims to increase awareness of this labor segment and develop innovative strategies to tap it. National Employ Older Workers Week also showcases the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), which provides on-the-job skills training to individuals 55 or older with limited financial resources. Since its inception, SCSEP has helped over one million older Americans enter the workforce. National Employ Older Workers Week is September 25-30, 2011. It is held annually in the last full week of September, which is an excellent time for businesses/employers in Cleveland County and throughout the United States to recognize the contributions made by the older workers they employ as well as facilitating Wii 8:30- 11:00 www.shelbyinfo.com Thursday, September 22-September 28, 2011 ...Senior's Lifestyle Section NEAL SENIOR CENTER MENU FOR SEPTEMBER2011 Grilled Chicken Or Chef Salads Available $5.00 (Must Pre-Order Salads) At The Leona Smith Neal Center - 100 T.R. The Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center encourages employers in our county; state and nation to carefully consider the qualifications of persons age 55 and older whose ranks are rapidly growing, when filling employment vacancies. Please remember that it is ABILITY, not age, which is a true measure of a worker's contribution. Arriving at the age, in which a person is considered to be a senior adult, does not mean that the senior worker no longer has the skills, abilities or the attitude to be a productive employee. Current Americans age 55 and above have the attitude and work ethic alone to make them extremely valu- able assets in the workplace. The Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center would like to extend a huge thank you to the Older Workers who are employed by the COA/Senior Center for your continuous and on-going job well done. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping make the COA/Senior Center a Senior Center of Excellence. –If You Don't Have A Will– Experienced attorney offers affordable wills from the comfort of your own home.
