FISHING REPORT FISHING REPOR KOSA The retirees fish Lake Hickory last week and has been the pattern on this lake, it was TOUGH! John Black and Roger McNeilly got the win with 3.30 followed closely by Ronnie Humphries, fishing solo, with 3.20. Tommy Wess and James Haynes had 2.0 and took third. The team of Black and McNeilly had the big bass of the day with a 2.0 largemouth. This week, the old-timers will hit Lake Norman and hopefully better catches. Moss Lake If you remember there was a storm brewing in the hours before blast off time last Thursday for the weekly Moss Lake bass tournament. This storm and recent low catches meant that only 14 boats showed up last week. Brian and Cody Hoyle got the win with 7.15 followed by Matt and Emily Arey with 5.90. Jeff Melton and Glen Eaves had 2.6 and settled in third and fourth went to Jody Black and Travis Hamrick. Big fish was a 2.50 brought in by the fourth place team of Black and Hamrick. CCBC The Cleveland County Bass Club fished High Rock Lake last week for their August event. It seemed to be a family thing as Larry Melton took the win with 11.34 followed by Tammy Melton with 7.16. Jimmy Melton had 6.84 and was third. Jay Price had 6.36 to claim fourth and rounding out the top five was Tom Mayhew with 5.86. Three keepers also seemed to be the norm as the top three and fifth place had three bass while Price has 2. September will find the CCBC on Lake Norman. If anyone has any suggestions on stories or pictures of their catch or kill, you can e-mail me at plail5@carolina.rr.com. The occasion, you ask? … Do you really have to ask? It’s called planning ahead or preventative maintenance. Some may even put it in the same category as early season preparation. The funny thing is, she knows my schemes. She laughs at the brazen way I ease the shock of another deer season where she becomes a hunting widow. Hunter, musician, and author, Steve Chapman has written that for every dol- lar that I spend on my hunting, I should spend another dollar on my wife. Now Steve, I know that you’ve sold more outdoor books than the rest of us put together, but that’s one book that I’ll never let my wife read. In fact, I burned my last copy after reading it. The evi- dence is gone and I’m refusing to give this valuable space in mentioning its title. I fi gure perhaps a 75/25 split is fair enough. After all, I’m bringing home the meat. Wait a minute… my wife just re- minded me that that meat translates to about $65.00 per pound… I hate when she’s right. I guess she didn’t believe me when I told her that I gave $99.00 for that new PSE XForce. 1999 DUTCHMAN LITE CAMP- ER 19ft, like new. 704-974-9639, cell. 704-297-3236, home. 9 DUTCHMAN LITE CAMCAMPERS/RVs CAMPERS/RVs LARGE RV LOT with water, sewer hookups, country setting, storage facility included. $300 month. It’s a seed from a Washington Red Delicious. You love and have eaten bushels of them. You’ve even picked them. You know a tree-ripened apple from one picked early and sprayed to ripen. You make your own apple pies. You know just about everything there is to know about apples… …except one thing. I ask you to look at that apple seed and tell me how many apples are in it. You can’t. And of course you can’t. You don’t know what the future holds. It’s reasonable to assume that seed contains bushels and bushels of apples in it, but it may hold none. You don’t know enough to say. Just as you can’t look at that apple seed and tell me how many apples are in it, you don’t know enough about the future to worry. You can’t look at a life situation and tell what it contains. Sure, you can worry about a lot of possible outcomes, but you can’t with certainty say what will happen. When you start to worry today, remember: whether to imagine positive or negative outcomes. You think about antelope and elk seasons or October whitetails and the November rut. A 3-year stretch in jail would pass more swiftly. There is yard work to be done, lawns to be mowed, a house that needs painting. A few 3D tournaments you choose or practice in the backyard occasionally breaks the monotony but mostly there is the waiting. Why not try bow fishing on a hot summer’s day? There are always carp, gar, or some other local rough fish offering sporting archery fare. You’ll also keep your skills sharp during the off season. The best way to learn more about the sport is to visit a local archery shop and then get out on the water and give it your best shot. LEFT HANDED MATHEWS DXT Compound Bow Pkg. Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ oward Christ have been married over 30 years. My wife and I I didn’t know that I was actually marry- ing an alien. Not an alien from another country, but from another planet. She consistently and successfully reads my mind. She can look in my eyes and determine truth from lies. Her gaze, in contrast, causes me to apologize for things that I never even knew I did. And with a simple childlike obedience I am programmed to say, “I was wrong.” So why the roses? I think she tele- pathically told me that she wanted ros- es. She wanted me to think that I was in control and that I would surprise her with my spontaneous gift. In truth, this was another ploy of hers just to remind me that she knew deer season was just around the corner and for me to make sure that I still understood that she has the power, with just one look, to make these next few months a blessing or a curse. I’ve got to go now. I can feel her telling me to take out the garbage be- fore she gets home. www outdoortruths.or FOR SALE FOR SALE 10x10x6 CHAIN LINK dog lot w/ canopy (canopy never opened or used) $275.
