And even though we were not able to travel as far as originally planned, we did get to some areas where the fi sh were not privy to lures. And again, the fl ash- iest, brightest, and biggest, seemed to work the best. I could tell the difference in activity when I tried to offer them the more garden variety of tackle. And some of these were big fi sh. You would think they would be more wary of fl ash. But they too were drawn in by some- thing that had sparkle but no substance. Much like many of us today. It bothers me today how so many people are drawn in to spiritual fl ash. Some preachers (I use the word loose- ly) on TV offers them the fl ash of cash or the sparkle of success, and they are quick to take the lure at whatever cost. And it works so much that if you hear the same preacher the next week, he’s casting the same prosperity lure. Why should he change when he’s catching so many? If the ice cubes are made with chlorinated tap water, keep the ice cubes in a plastic bag. Chlorine can kill minnows. Every time you dip for a minnow, replace the bucket lid immediately. This keeps the water cool and oxygenated. Warm water depletes oxygen. If the minnows swarm to the surface, the water probably needs changing. Refill only half the bucket each time. A full bucket of fresh water can shock the minnows and shorten their life span. When you add water to the bucket, don’t let it increase or decrease the water temperature more than 10 degrees. If you carry fish home in a minnow bucket, wash the bucket afterward with baking soda. This removes bacteria-breeding slime which will consume oxygen that may be in the water. Finally, consider purchasing a bait bucket aerator to keep oxygen in the water.
