Ronnie Black and Roger Marshall took the win with 14.2 and they also had big bass of the event with a 5.0 largemouth. Evan Edwards and John Brown had 10.0 and took second, with third going to Ernie Pilkin and Wayne Turner with 8.2. KOSA The Kosa retirees fished Lake Wylie last week and Tony Black and Ned Blanton picked up the win. The pair had 11.45 and just edged out Larry Melton and George Crosswhite, who had 11.15. Mack Wyatt and Johnny Christianberry brought in 10.75 and took third. Big fish was a 3.15 largemouth brought in by the winning team of Black and Blanton. This week it is back to Lake Norman. MOSS The weekly Thursday night bass tournament saw 21 boats come out and cast away for the first place prize. Matt Arey and Les Dulin took the win with 8.74. Arnold Ledford and (Mr. out of retirement) Steve Gordon took second with 7.15. Charles Kanike and Mavrick took third with 6.60 and close behind was the father/son team of Brian and Cody Hoyle with 6.15. Jimmy Weaver and Randy Moss had 6.10 and rounded out the top five. By Gary Miller By It’s amazing sometimes when I think about how hunters and fi shermen en- dure certain things willingly. One area that I seem to always think of is in the area of standing. I think of two friends especially. One is a tournament fi sher- man. Whether he is fi shing for money or not, he will not sit down while fi shing no matter how long he has been fi shing. I’ve never even seen him lean on his pedestal seat. He will stand for hours. Another friend is an avid deer hunter. Avid might be an understatement. He is so paranoid about deer seeing or hear- ing him that he will walk what seems to be an inordinate and an unnecessary distance in the dark without a fl ashlight, just to get to his tree stand. And then, once in his tree stand, he will not sit down at anytime during the hunt. He will stand with bow in hand, waiting expec- tantly for the animal his is hunting. These stand-ups not only appear in hunting and fi shing, but in most sports. There are some fans that stand up during most of their team’s game. And I think it is the student section of the Duke Blue Devils who will not sit during the entire basketball game. Now that’s a fan! Now you may say that most of those are young people. Well, the stu- dent section may be, but my hunting and fi shing friends are both pushing forty. But what hap- pens when we go to church?......... In my church over the past few years, we have moved from a congregation of up and downers to one of extended uppers. We mostly do our music in one session and then allow the pastor to teach. And we stand during our music. And while this may be new to some, I have always had a hard time under- standing how we could sing There’s Power in the Blood, when it was all running to our backside while we were sitting down!……… just sayin’. This doesn’t mean that some do not remain seated, because of health issues. They should and do, and do so without any- one looking judgmental toward them. But my problem is with those who com- plain about the constant standing with no related health issues. Do I want to sit down sometimes? Yes, but when those times happen I always remind myself of the previous day when I spent all day long standing in that boat even when the fi shing was slim. And if I can stand in hopes of a fi sh for several hours, then I am more than thankful to be able to stand in hon- or to God and in example to others for as long as it takes on Sunday morning.
