Members of the club raised $2,500 through a school-wide coin drive and challenge in order to fund the project. More than forty volunteers will gather at Burns High on Saturday morning for a hands-on experience mixing, bagging, and boxing the meals, which will be sent to third world countries and distributed to children in orphanages and school lunch programs. "This is our international project for the year," said Beth Wilson, Interact club president. "We have been working hard since November to raise the money we need and we are excited to finally see this happen." The Burns Interact students conduct several service projects during the school year, including one project that fosters international awareness and goodwill. This project is in partnership with Stop Hunger Now, an international organiza- tion committed to world hunger relief. Volunteers will include Burns High Interact students, Shelby Breakfast Rotary Club members, and Burns students who participate in the Communities in Schools Graduation Station. The assembly process will combine rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix that includes 12 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packages.
