The Land of the Sky Gun Show, which was very profitable for the county in 2010, is returning for 2 shows in 2011. The first is scheduled for the weekend of April 9-10 and the second for November 12-13. Both events will be held at the old Wal-Mart facility located at 1762 E. Dixon Boulevard in Shelby. On May 21, the regional American Athletic Union’s (AAU) Southeast SuperRegional Karate champion- ship will be held at Shelby High School. The one-day tournament will attract hundreds of traditional karate athletes ages 5-55 for individual and team events in weapons, forms and sparring. The All American Bowl will bring its 2011 All American High School Football Bowl game to Kings Mountain High School on June 25. The regional all- star game will feature athletes from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. The American Junior Golf Association will head to Shelby July 17-21 for the inaugural Cleveland County Junior Golf tournament. Sponsored by the Cleveland County Healthcare Foundation and the Cleveland County Sports Commission, the event will be a 54-hole stroke play tournament held at the Deer Brook Golf NEED BUSINESS CARDS TO PROMOTE YOURSELF & YOUR BUSINESS? 1000 raised print business cards starting at $29.50 + tax. The Sports Commission’s annual Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament will be this year at Crest High School and will feature all 4 local high school men’s teams. Tournament play is scheduled for Dec. 27-29. The competing teams will be announced later. Last year the Sports Commission in conjunction with the Carp Anglers Group hosted a successful fishing tournament in Cleveland County and discussions are underway to return the event to the county in June. According to Jay Rhodes, Executive Director of the Sports Commission, these events will bring new reve- nue and new visitors to the county throughout the year. “Our goal,” he says, “is to attract and recruit whole- some sporting events to Cleveland County which ben- efit the county economically while providing meaningful activities for our citizens to participate in or enjoy.” For more information on these events, visit the Cleveland County Sports Commission’s website at www.clevelandcountysports.com.
