Good Neighbor Award: United Way of Cleveland County Coaches Award: The Coaches Award was presented to Club members Guvany Abarra, Shantez Banks, Elijah Borders, Kenyon Hopper, Trey Jolly, Timothy Ruff, Kierryn Jamison and Joshua Dawkins. Youth of the Year Award: The Youth of the Year Award was presented to a 4 year Club member, Brittney Hooker. Brittney is an eleventh grader at Shelby High School. At school she doubles as the football and basketball mascot “Ms. Leo”. Outside of school she is a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she is active in the Sunday School Program and serves as President of the Youth Missionary. She is active in the Community Math Academy and has volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club in the Jack Schweppe Summer Day Camp and in the Club’s After-School Program. Brittney is the daughter of Takiyah and Chris Burgess and the granddaughter of Richard and Linda Hopper. The presentation to Brittney included both a plaque to honor her achievement and a $100 check from the Boys & Girls Club’s Board of Directors. Junior Youth of the Year Award: The Junior Youth of the Year Award was presented to Club member Buddy Jones III. Buddy has participated in the Club’s After-School Program for four years. He’s a sixth grade “A-B” Honor Student at Shelby Middle School where his favorite subject is science. He is the son of Buddy and Angela Jones and is an active member of Home Fellowship Church. Buddy received a plaque to honor his achievement and a $50 check from the Boys & Girls Club’s Board of Directors. Memorial Presentation: A memorial presentation was made to the wife and family of Blaine Froneberger. Blaine was a long-time friend and volunteer with the Boys & Girls Club. Mabel Froneberger and her daughters Rhonda Hamrick and Kelli Shelor accepted the tribute from Board President Jack Weller. The memorial presentation named the 2010 Honor Day Camper Award as the “Blaine Froneberger Award” Blaine Froneberger Honor Day Camper Award: The youth recipient of the “Blaine Fronebeger Award” was Michael Rizo. Michael is a second grader at Union Elementary School where he is an “A” Honor student. His favorite subject is spelling. He attends the “Good News Club” after school and he is a member of Union Baptist Church where he is active in the youth activities. He was a camper in The Club’s Jack Schweppe Summer day Camp for the fi rst time last year. He is the son of Natasha and Emilio Rizo and is the grandson of Steve and Judy Hudgins. Michael received a plaque to honor his achievement and a $50 check from the Boys & Girls Club’s Board of Directors. Kids and Parents To Come Play at Healthy Kids Day™ and Asthma Expo, April 16 On Saturday, April 16, 2011, the Dover Foundation YMCA invites kids and parents in to make a “play date” at the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day™ and Asthma Expo. As the leading nonprofit for strengthening community, the Y holds Healthy Kids Day to bring families together to engage in fun, active play and learn healthier habits that help them grow and thrive. Activities are free and open to all. At Healthy Kids Day and Asthma Expo, the nation’s largest health day for kids, families will enjoy games, arts and crafts, community agency information booths/vendors, family fitness and more. Also, the Cleveland County Asthma Coalition will be sharing information about asthma management and edu- cation.
