The popular Mr. Sain is recovering from an almost fatal stroke on January 11. Here he is getting a kiss from his loving wife, Brenda. When asked how he was doing: “I feel good” he replied. His daughters and 10 grandchildren feel good about it too. – M. A. The Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland County held its Annual Awards Banquet and program at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Shelby on Friday Evening, April 8. Board President Jack Weller was Master of Ceremonies for the evening which honored last year’s volunteers and participants in the Club’s programs. Presenters and assistants for the evening were Jack Weller, Board Members Faye Burton, Bob Chadwick and Frank Lattimore, Boys & Girls Club Program Director Mary Pass and Club Executive Director Ray Hurley. The following awards were presented: Youth Service Award: Mary Curry, DaShawn Dorsey, Rhonda Kimble, Revenia Hartgrove, Cynthia Moses, Jamarcus Schenck, Pearline Strong and Ethel Shell. Continued On Page 31 New Fire Station 5757 Casar Road is the new address of the expansion and new building for the Casar Volunteer Fire Department. On Saturday, April 2nd the anniversary and grand opening celebration offered free food, blue grass music and a lot of smiles on the faces of the volun- teers. Chief Dewey Cook said he was pleased to see the great community turnout at the new eight bay station. The department has thirty-six volunteer firemen and seven trucks. –M. A. Healthy Kids Day Asthma Expo At Shelby City Park, the Red Knights Fireman’s Motorcycle Club, Chapter 14 Club hosted a fundraiser for two retired fi remen who are fi ghting cancer. Pictured here, (l to r), Keith Lowery, Red Knights President, cancer victims Bobby Jones and Phil Lovelace, plus Red Knights member Phillip Lane. Bobby Jones is still under treatment for esophageal cancer and Phil Lovelace is fi ghting lymphoma. The band “Ocean Boulevard” of which Phil Lovelace is member, entertained. These retired fi ghters have a great attitude and displayed a lot of faith. Please pray for them. –M. A.
