Local Eats Where the regulars go Main Street staple the Delhi Diner can be counted on for good food, service and ambiance I’m a student at SUNY Delhi, and when a friend came to visit me, I took her to the Delhi Diner, which I hadn’t been to before. Much to our surprise, the prices weren’t bad — you can get a cup of coffee for 75 cents (and the diner had just raised its prices). Plus, it was a great cup of coffee. The atmosphere is cozy, with an Adirondack theme and friendly waitstaff. Also, no one cared that my friends and I sat around for a while after we’d paid our bill ($40 for five people). Pictures of customers hang on the walls of the diner. Owner Louis Pescout said they were of the diner’s regular customers through the years. The diner originally opened in the ’40s or ’50s, Pescout wasn’t sure of the exact date, which was four owners ago. But it was originally located behind the current location. Pescout has been running the business since 2007. The diner serves breakfast and lunch from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The restaurant serves typical diner food, and it offers breakfast specials, pancakes and French toast. Customers can build their own omelets. Customers coming in for lunch can order “Off the Grill” — cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fish, grilled chicken — or “Keep It Cool” with cold sandwiches. The diner consistently serves good food at reasonable prices; pair that with friendly service and a charming atmosphere, and it’s no wonder why it has so many regulars. _ Lauren Harper Photo by Kirby Olson 12 O-Town Scene March 31, 2011
