The children’s section fills a substantial area of the store and includes toys, strollers and other items in addition to clothes. Designer items may be also be found at reasonable prices. CONSIGN • Percentage of sales for consignors is 50/50. • Payout is in cash on a daily basis. • Consignors may bring up to 10 items, or up to 60 with an appointment. “With the economy the way it is, it (consign- ment shopping) works out for everyone.” • Consignors may not take back unsold items. UNSOLD ITEMS: After two months, items are marked down or donated to Family Services, Salvation Army and the Oneonta Southside Wesleyan Church. OWNER: Cindy Staffin OPEN SINCE: March 2010 SCENE: Located in the same space as Tannenbaum’s other business, Pieceworks Fabric, Consignment Closet has a variety of everything _ women’s, children’s and men’s cloth- ing; home decorative items; books; DVDs; handbags and accessories. The handbag selection is extensive and includes new and barely used bags from designers such as Vera Bradley, Kate Spade and Coach. CONSIGN • Percentage of sales for consignors is 50/50. • Payout is in check form and available after the fifth of the month for sales made the previous month. Checks can be mailed for a processing fee of $1. • Consignors do not need an appointment and may bring a “reasonable” number of items at a time. “We cannot accept car loads of items.” • Consignors may only consign the first three weeks of the month. • Items may not be picked up. UNSOLD ITEMS: After items have been on the selling floor for two months, they are placed on sale. After three months, unsold items are donated to local charities. DONATION PROGRAM: Consignors may choose to donate their percent- age of profits of sales to the charity of their choice. Consignment Closet will give the money directly to the charity. The program is just beginning, with the Violence Intervention Program the first charity signed on. “I think it will be a nice way to reach out into the community ... A lot of times people will come and say, ‘just take this and donate the money to a charity.’ It will be a nice way to give back ... It’s a crying shame that so many of these programs are losing funds; we can’t afford to have that happen as a community.” OWNER SIDE PROJECT: Pieceworks Fabric, which is in the same space as Consignment Closet. SCENE: In a quaint corner with large windows, Transi- tions specializ- es in women’s clothing, including casual and formalwear. Also available are new books on health and wellness and Cookie Lee jewelry. “It’s very boutique- y; it’s not very crowded; I think it’s on a more personal level. I’m very much into helping people choose cloth- ing and what looks good on them. When there are other women in here, it’s like a big girl party. Sometimes I turn the music up a little louder, and there’ll be dancing. The atmo- sphere is one that’s light and fun and easy to maneuver around.” CONSIGN • Percentage of sales for consignors is 40/60. • Payout is in check form on a monthly basis, or “If they’re here and shopping, I’ll just give them cash.” • Consignors do not need an appointment, and may bring up to 12 items. UNSOLD ITEMS: Consignors have a 60-day contract. A week after the contract expires, consignors may pick up unsold items. Items not collected are do- nated to Catskill Area Hospice.
