Winslow Elementary School is on Christmas break until Jan. 2, 2014, and to all the kids, enjoy your winter break and I hope the gifts from Santa and your parents are exactly what you wanted. Now you know that the goodness you have shown to get your gifts should continue way past this holiday season. The snow melted almost away before the rain began on late Thursday night into Friday. It continued Saturday, so the Winslow Christmas parade had to be cancelled—the first time in a long time it had to be cancelled. Flood watches were announced with the eastern counties being under a tornado watch Saturday. There were roads that flood all the time but, as usual, people still think they can drive through it. Guess what happened? Yes, they got stuck and floated off the roadway. Riverside Park banks are overflowing. The temperatures were great last week, but are expected to drop down this week. Christmas Day is near and most of us will be with family and friends. Most of us will travel a long distance and some will say at home for the holidays. Whatever you do, keep in mind that the time you have is a special time when you can see the kids open their presents. Time with loved ones is so precious and is a continued tradition to hand down to those little ones who are so excited. Time to dim the lights on this week, and as always, slow down, keep an eye on family and friends, and always smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone this week. Merry Christmas to all. Monday OES celebrates Polar Express Day Otwell Elementary second grade students of Mrs. Terra Knust's class recently celebrated Polar Express Day. Students wore their pajamas, had their magic tickets punched and drank hot chocolate with marshmallows, and ate candy canes. Santa even came to visit and gave each student the first gift of Christmas.
