Moms Club of Shelby MOMS CLUB of SHELBY-We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 10-11 AM at Christ Covenant Church in Shelby. Here we plan our play dates, moms night out, and discuss other business matters for the month. Our members are stay at home moms or moms who work part time that live in the local area. The local chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) will host regular, confidential, peer-led, self-help support group meetings on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 8:00pm at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Shelby. DBSA support groups are open to anyone who is diagnosed with a mood disorder, has a family member or friend who is diagnosed, or who thinks they might have depression or bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression). DBSA support groups are not run by professionals, but instead offer peer-to-peer support which is an important component of recovery from mental ill- ness for many people. DBSA is the nation’s leading patient-directed organization focusing on the most prevalent mental illnesses – depression and bipolar disorder. The organization has over 400 independent local chapters that operate over 1000 self-help support groups around the United States. Hospice Cleveland County Events “Chick-fil-A Spirit Night” – Hospice Cleveland County would like to invite you to participate in Hospice Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A (near Walmart). 10% of all proceeds between 6 pm and 8 pm on this night will be donated to Hospice Cleveland County for anyone saying they are supporting Hospice when they order. Participants will have the opportunity to express their grief through writing, crafts, play activities and group discussions. Dogfall – Award Winning Play Sanguine Theatre Troupe in conjunction with North Carolina Stage Company will be presenting a new, award winning play, Dogfall, as a part of NC Stage Company’s Catalyst Series on January 14th- 16th and 21st-23rd. Now in its seventh year, the Catalyst Series features performances from local, grassroots theatre companies. NC Stage collaborates with these exciting companies to expand its own programming while providing resources for innovative theatre. Playwright,-Professor Scot Lahaie from Shelby, NC, will be taking on a new role as actor in this exciting new production of Dogfall as he portrays Dr. Jake McKenzie, a doctor known for assisting his patients commit suicide because of terminal illness. Joining Lahaie on stage is local Actor Bradley James Archer, an Asheville native, playing the role of Mike Howard, a right-wing religious zealot bent on punishing Dr. McKenzie for his crimes against God and Humanity. The price of a ticket for the play is fifteen dollars for adults, and ten dollars students and seniors. January 14th is Pay-What-You-Can night. If you plan to attend that night, you will be asked to pay a $6 minimum, cash only, exact change only, and reservations are highly recommended. Burns Middle School Spaghetti Supper We are having a Spaghetti Supper for Jackson Bivins (BMS Student) at the Burns Middle School Cafeteria Friday, January 14th from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm. Life Enrichment Center Dementia Meeting Does someone you love have dementia? Alzheimer’s? What’s the difference? The public is invited to an informational meeting about dementia Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at the new Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Service facility in Shelby. The center is located at 110 Life Enrichment Blvd., just off Fallston Road beside Teddy and Meekins law office, in the cul de sac that turns beside Cornerstone dental office. The center offers a free sitter service for the person with dementia, but you must make a reservation for the sitter service by calling 704.484.0405. No reservation is needed to attend the meeting. Carillon Assisted Living of Shelby Carillon Assisted Living of Shelby is launching our “Annual Old Man Winter Coat Drive”. It’s time to clean out those closets, and find some good use for those coats you don’t wear anymore! There are so many deserving people in our community who would appreciate a warm jacket. Drop off your coats so that they can be presented to the Cleveland County Abuse Prevention Council to help the less fortunate stay warm this winter. Help us make a difference in OUR community! This Winter Coat Drive will take place January 1st - January 30th at the Carillon Assisted Living of Shelby, 1550 Charles Road, Shelby. Coat Drop-off time: 8:00 am - 8:00 pm. “Coats may be new or “gently used.” We will be glad to coordinate alternate “drop=off” arrangements if you cannot drop off coats at our commuity.
