Brief Break--Then Super cold Outbreak! As I alerted my read- ers earlier this season, we’ll have major ups and downs in this “la nina” Winter. They’re known for periods of very warm (we’ve had that) and periods of extreme cold (had that too). Next up, we get a brief break this weekend before a really big dip in the jetstream hurls the coldest air in several years our way. A storm will cross our area quickly Saturday night into Sunday, and then really deepen on our coast. It could throw some snow back into the eastern sections of the state, before rocketing up the east coast. The net effect will be to drag down a large chunk of extremely cold air right across the Southeast, clear all the way through the Florida peninsula. Its almost unheard for Miami to get to the freezing mark, but they have a chance with this airmass. For us, I don’t think we’ll even get out of the 20’s on Monday! With plenty of sunshine, and only reaching something like 27 degrees for a high temp? Thats cold! The snow will upslope the NC mountains for a couple days as well. Please check on the elderly and outdoor pets during this cold wave, and take the weekend “warmup” to winterize your car and wrap some exposed pipes...by Monday and Tuesday you’ll wish you had. Check the blogspot for any snow or ice chances, which look possible as we get closer to Christmas.
