With his wife Pam holding the Bible, Alan Norman took the oath of offi ce for Sheriff of Cleveland County. Senior Resident Superior Court Judge, Forrest Donald Bridges administered the oath. The special event took place at 9 a.m. on Monday, December 6th at Bethel Baptist Church in Shelby. It was Sheriff Norman’s choice to have his oath of offi ce administered in church. The church was packed with members of the Sheriff Department, well wishers and supporters. In a brief address by Sheriff Norman, he thanked all who helped him achieve the offi ce. He also commanded that each member of the department give “one hundred percent”. He repeated again that the door to the Cleveland County Sheriff Department “will always be open.” –M. A. The new Shelby Middle School is coming into being and it should open in August for the coming 2011-2012 school year. The new address will be 1501 Melrose Drive, at the corner of S. DeKalb Street. The facility will re- place the present school, which is now located on East Marion Street.
