After welcoming guests and acknowledging all those who made the $465,000 unit possible, the Chief began the traditional “christening”. With all guests invited to participate, the new # 31 was fi rst watered down with hoses from the retiring #24, then everyone gathered to lend some muscle to push the new addition into it’s new home. A reception followed. Shelby fi re fi ghters, Chris Poole, Jimmy Wellmon, Shawn Ledbetter, Keith Lowery, Brian Cobbs and Don Loucks were on the committee that designed Engine #31, all of which should be proud of their achievement. – M. A. Andrews Airport Hosts Annual Fly-In & Open House, And Unveils New Terminal Pictured above, Jan Tucker, member of the Airport board, Airport Supervisor, Devon W. Raisch, and UNICOM’s Richard Fletcher, also a member of the board monitor Woodson Field during last Saturday’s annual Fly-In and Open House. Devon Raisch said: “The building is extremely functional as well as a fi rst of its’ kind.” Shelby Municipal Airport has been offi cially been renamed Shelby- Cleveland County Regional Airport. The airport’s staff and board of directors were proud to fl aunt their new terminal building at this past Sat- urday’s annual Fly-In and Open House, which had over 300 people in at- tendance. The airport’s Woodson Field can accommodate corporate and general aviation with its’ 5002 foot by 100 foot, fully lighted runway and full parallel taxiway. The new terminal building has a lounge that offers refreshments, restrooms and pilots lounge.The awe- some two level building was designed by MBAJ Architecture of Shelby and the interior was designed by Geri Cruickshank Eaker (pictured right with Airport Supervisor, Devon Raisch). The new facility expands the ability to better serve corporate and local business clients. The Shelby-Cleveland County Regional Airport is open to the public 8a.m. to 5p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. –M. A.
