Lunch & a Study of the Bible First Thurs. of Each Month at Central Methodist First Thursday -- Lunch with Susan will be celebrating its twenti- eth year. This is a Shelby institution that is barely noticed, but one that draws many women and men each month to Central Methodist Church for a community gathering for lunch and a study of the Bible. The teacher is Susan Carlisle Bell, an art instructor at Gardner-Webb University. She also has a masters degree in Christian education. Lunch is noontime to one o’clock. Mothers of young children, and those on lunch break will appreciate that Susan begins the teach- ing at 12:10 and finishes by 12:50 p.m. There is no “homework,” no membership, and lunch is optional at $4.00. **Reservations are required for the lunch and nursery care**. Blake is the son of Brenda & Carroll Carpenter of Cherryville and grandson of the late Stella Ballard who was a long-time member of the church. Blake graduated from Davidson College and completed a Master of Divinity degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Blake has studied in France, taught French at both the university and secondary levels, and was an English lecturer at the Université de Nice. Blake is currently a French Lecturer at the University of Texas in Arlington, Texas. Immediately following the worship service, we will have a covered-dish lunch in the J. W.
