Page 4 - Rutherford Weekly 828-248-1408 www.rutherfordweekly.com Thursday, December 21-December 27, 2023 Rutherford County will soon experience the harvesting of coffee from what is believed to be the fi rst American Hydroponic Grown Coffee Farm and will be grown at Isothermal Community College's 2,300 square foot space in the Walter Dalton building at Isothermal in partnership with Big Guns Coffee. Big Guns Coffee founders/co-owners T. Shane Johnson and his daughter Charli, 9, of Mill Spring, plan to move 15 coffee trees he is already growing hydroponically at his home to ICC, and will be adding more. The process is similar to vineyards. They appeared via video on the Kelly Clarkson Show last week and Charli told the audience everyone is supporting their business. Because of it they plan to help 1,000 needy children in Rutherford County this Christmas. Johnson says his daughter is the one who came up with the idea of Big Guns Coffee. She is homeschooled where she spends time working her business and doing her school work. Big Guns Coffee has locations in North and South Carolina. This initiative will transform a 2,300-square-foot space within the Technology Building on Isothermal's Spindale Campus. Big Guns Coffee partners with Isothermal Charli and T. After a few hours of photographs with puppies and dogs, kisses and smiles from Santa and Mrs. Claus, the Abrams Family sincerely thanked all in the community, who helped them honor Heart of the Foothills Animal Rescue-Rutherford County in memory of their son, Marshall Abrams. In addition to plenty of photos and dog hugs, the third annual event raised approximately $1,000 in cash and supply donations for the animal rescue. The event was held at Marshall Park in Kiwanis Park, Rutherfordton. Dot Abrams said, "every year "Santa Doggie Jam" just gets better and better.'' "It's an honor for Heart of the Foothills to be the recipients of the Abrams family event they host yearly in memory of their son," said Karen Parker, founder/executive director at Heart of the Foothills Animal Rescue.
