She was originally from Puerto Rico, she spent her life in Newburgh, NY, and later in North Carolina. She was born to the late Victoria Montalvo and Ramon Laboy. She is survived by her children, Destiny Falcon, Katrina Peters, Jesus Rivera; step-children, Sierra Maise and Diamonte Ortiz; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial tributes may be made at www.rsmorganfsl.com. DANIEL GLENN DIXON Daniel Glenn Dixon, 75, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on November 30, 2023. He was born in Gaston County, NC, son of the late Delbert Barnett Dixon and Annie Sue Baker Dixon and was preceded in death by a brother, David Dixon. Mr. Dixon served our country in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Shonni Penland Dixon, of the home; siblings: Teresa Williams, and Greg Dixon and wife Sheila, both of Kings Mountain, NC. JOE DEAN DOSTER Joe Dean "Jody" Doster, 64, of Smyrna, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Born in York, SC, he was the son of the late Jessie and Fannie Martin Doster. Surviving Mr. Doster are his brother, Teddy Doster, and his sister, Diane Jenkins, both of Blacksburg. Mr. Doster was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services were held December 5, 2023, at Broad River Baptist Church of Smyrna. JAMES "JIMMY" LEE CARTER, JR. James "Jimmy" Lee Carter, Jr., 58, of Shelby, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Born in Cleveland County on September 7, 1965, he was a son of Dorothy Martin Carter of Shelby and the late James Lee Carter, Sr. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Tonya Maria Cogdell Carter; a son, James Lee Brandon Carter; two daughters, Jamie Trotman and hus- band Kuylah and Tabitha Adams and husband Nijah all of Shelby; and a broth- er, Michael Carter and wife Loretta of Kings Mountain. The funeral service was held December 6, 2023 at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Bridges officiating. The burial followed in the Rose Hill Memorial Park. JERRY TALMADGE WILLIS Jerry Talmadge Willis, age 86, of Shelby, NC passed away on November 29, 2023. Jerry was born in 1937 to Hartford Willis and Elvena Ivester in Cleveland County, NC Mr. Willis served our coun- try in the U.S. Army He was awarded the Bronze Star and Air Medal, both with numerous Oak Leaf Clusters, for his service in Vietnam. Jerry is predeceased by his wife Sybil, his parents Hartford and Elvena, his sis- ters Joan and Cynthia, and his infant brother Jessie. He is survived by his three children: Jeffrey Willis and wife Mary Kelley of Raleigh, NC, Sarah and husband Luke Helbling of Callaway, MD and Jennifer and husband Steve Wynn of Ashburn, VA; seven grand- children and three great- grandchildren; and his broth- er, Halford Willis and wife Nina of Winston Salem, NC. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, Fallston. Born in Haywood County, NC on April 22, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Clayton Miller and Jesse Cordelia Edwards Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Dale Cagle; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Vivian Robinson Shoup of Casar and JoAnne Robinson Terry of Boiling Springs; two sons, James Robinson of New Hampshire and Scott Woods of Waynesville; eight grand- children, four great-grand- children and six great-great grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Keith Shuford and wife Jennifer of Boiling Springs; son-in-law, Wayne Walker of Lawndale; former daughter- in-law, Jeanne Shuford of Casar; brothers, Bill Hastings of Lawndale, Robert Hastings of Ridge Crest, CA, and Norris Hastings of Shelby; three grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandsons. Born in Gaffney, SC, he was the husband of Doris Broom Varner and the son of Juanita Lowery Pickeral and the late Marshall Varner. Mr. Varner served our country in the U.S. Marine Corp. Surviving Mr. Varner are two brothers, James Varner of Pickens and Marshall Varner of Gastonia; three grandchil- dren; and his sisters-in-law: Kathy, Dorothy, Gloria, and Brenda. WILLIAM DON WORTMAN William Don Wortman, 75, of Casar, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Born in Cleveland County, NC on January 6, 1948, he was the son of the late Lester Theodore Wortman and Mittie Newton Wortman. Mr. Wortman served our country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mavis Peacock, Connie Nedlock and husband Wesley and Carol Garner and husband Harold.
