He was born in Gaston County, NC, son of the late Delbert Barnett Dixon and Annie Sue Baker Dixon and was preceded in death by a brother, David Dixon. Mr. Dixon served our country in the U.S. Air Force. James "Jimmy" Lee Carter, Jr., 58, of Shelby, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Born in Cleveland County on September 7, 1965, he was a son of Dorothy Martin Carter of Shelby and the late James Lee Carter, Sr. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Tonya Maria Cogdell Carter; a son, James Lee Brandon Carter; two daughters, Jamie Trotman and hus- band Kuylah and Tabitha Adams and husband Nijah all of Shelby; and a broth- er, Michael Carter and wife Loretta of Kings Mountain. Jerry was born in 1937 to Hartford Willis and Elvena Ivester in Cleveland County, NC Mr. Willis served our coun- try in the U.S. Army He was awarded the Bronze Star and Air Medal, both with numerous Oak Leaf Clusters, for his service in Vietnam. Jerry is predeceased by his wife Sybil, his parents Hartford and Elvena, his sis- ters Joan and Cynthia, and his infant brother Jessie. He is survived by his three children: Jeffrey Willis and wife Mary Kelley of Raleigh, NC, Sarah and husband Luke Helbling of Callaway, MD and Jennifer and husband Steve Wynn of Ashburn, VA; seven grand- children and three great- grandchildren; and his broth- er, Halford Willis and wife Nina of Winston Salem, NC.
