Many of us may even admit that we have searched for love, acceptance, or affirma- tion in the "wrong places" and came up empty and bankrupt. Fortunately, a better option is available to all. There's someone who wants to lavish their love on each one of us - The Creator of the heavens and the earth. The One who made us in his image and after his likeness, is the very essence of love. I John 4:16 states, "So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him." It's hard to wrap our minds around this super- natural, lavish love, be- cause we are accustomed to receiving and giving im- perfect, conditional love. But the Lord looks beyond our faults and loves us for who we truly are. He reveals this perfect love towards us through the sacrificial life and death of Jesus Christ. Romans 5:8 states, "But God dem- onstrates His own love to- ward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Invitation to Intimacy The nature of the love of God is to draw us into a close relationship with him. It's not enough to have a mental acknowl- edgement of his existence, but he invites us to open the doors of our hearts to him. Through faith in Jesus Christ and a surren- dered heart, acceptance of the invitation takes us into a realm of intimacy with God that becomes expe- riential encounters of his exceptional love and pres- ence. As we daily come to him and abide in him, he continually transforms our character to become more Christlike. He heals the wounds of our soul. Most importantly, he fills the void in our lives and makes us whole in a way that nothing or no one else can. In Rev- elation 3:20 Jesus states, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me." Will you accept the invi- tation to be lavished by the love of God in Christ Jesus - Today and Everyday? LET'S PRAY – "Father God, what an honor it is to be loved by you. Your love is astounding, yet it is more real than the air we breathe. I ask that you give us a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of you. Help us to grasp how wide and long and high and deep the love of Christ is. May we know this love that sur- passes knowledge and be filled with all the fullness of you, O God in the name of Jesus. Amen." Danyale Patterson would love to hear from you! Contact her at www. danyale.com to share a testimony, send a prayer request, or book her to speak. Shelby Rotary Club Visits Shepherd's Table at Episcopal Church of Redeemer and Recognizes Two Volunteers as Paul Harris Fellows Shelby Rotary Club president, Jack Weller, developed a program that moved the second meeting of each month to the location of a local non-profi t or agency that demonstrates Rotary's ideal of Service Above Self. On March 10, Shelby Rotary Club members met at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer for their weekly meeting where they were treated to a delicious lunch and an inspiring program about the church's noontime feeding and food pantry ministries called the Shepherd's Table. Two leaders of the Shepherd's Table were recognized for their dedication to helping those in need of food by naming Marilyn Thompson and Deacon Pam Bright Paul Harris Fellows. Rotary International encourages Rotary Clubs to recognize individuals outside of Rotary for demonstrating the value of Service to others Above Self. Marilyn Thompson, a native of Cleveland County and a member of Ryburn Presbyterian Church, has been involved with the Shepherd's Table since 2010. In charge of the hot meals people receive that day, Marilyn supervises a kitchen crew of six volunteers and a total of eight volunteers whose services are greatly needed and greatly appreciated. She is, indeed, "doing good in the world" by "doing good" for those in her community. Deacon Pam Bright, a native of Marion, NC, coordinates distribution of over 150 food boxes each week closely with Benjamin Hopkins who oversees the preparation of boxes of food which are given to those in need each Wednesday. After having worked in social services for over almost thirty years, she was called to become a Deacon in the Episcopal Church. Deacon Pam has been described as a beacon of light and love for all travelers in life, helping them see themselves as God sees them, providing food for the body and food for the soul. For their loving services, especially the food ministry, Shelby Rotary Club is proud to recognize Deacon Pam Bright and Marilyn Thompson in making them Paul Harris Fellows. Submitted by Jack Weller Shelby Rotary Club honors two volunteers at Shepherd's Table, (l to r) Shelby Rotary Club president Jack Weller and past president Peter Bagley (far right). Congratulate Marilyn Thompson and Deacon Pam Bright as the Club's newest Paul Harris Fellows.
