Kathryn Jones of Shelby High took the second-place prize of $300 dollars. Addi- son Wease, also of Shelby High, took the third prize of $200 dollars. Judges for the event were Shelby City Councilman Charles Webber, District Court Judge Ali Paksoy, and Gardner Webb University professors Courtney Alston, June Hobbs, Bobbie Cox, and Perry Hildreth. Born August 28, 1948, in Cleveland County, NC, Charles was the son of the late Mozon Heffner and Lucille Patterson Heffner and was preceded in death by his children, Cindy Heffner Callahan and Billy Heffner, a granddaughter, and a broth- er, Tommy Heffner.
