"Overall, this was a ver y competitive meet. Both the boys and girls competed well in this new meet. We were happy to get a chance to run on the semi-state course in hopes of being back there lat- er in the season," said Titan Coach Jeremy Aydt. The boys placed fourth in the meet as their top five run- ners finished in the top 35 of the meet with 122 competi- tors. Junior Alex Spindler led the way for the Titans, r un- ning a 17:03.99 to place eighth. Hayden Pennington placed 18th with a time of 17:38.53, Cooper Maurer was 24th in a time of 17:55.85. Isaac Pohl ran an 18:14 to place 29th and Lucas Kissell turned in an 18:32.11 for 35th place. The top five r unners for Gibson Southern were all juniors. The Titans were fourth with a team score of 104. The meet was mostly 5A and 6A schools. Bloomington North won the meet with a team score of 36. The other team scores were 2) Bloomington South 67, 3) Northview 80, 4) Gib- son Southern 104, 5) Jennings County 113, 6) Brown County 114, 7) Columbus East 215. Chase Austin of Brown County won the meet with a time of 16:10.25. Other Titan runners' times were: Ethan Spindler 19:29 in 58th, Johnathon Spindler 19:41 in 66th, Owen Mercer 22:26 in 101st, Noah Wagener 23:16 in 111th, Aiden Loveless 23:36112th, Taylor Brundage 25:58 in 121st and Maddox Giles 26:57 in 122nd. GIRLS PLACE FIFTH Gibson Southern's girls placed fifth in the meet with Courtney Heldt being their top finisher. Heldt ran a 20:51.68 to place 16th. Elizabeth Steckler was 32nd with a time of 22:10, Aleks Parmer was 49th in 23:26, Bailey Baker was 69th in 24:48 and Aleah Rexing ran 74th in 24:48 for a team score of 158 and fifth place finish. Northview won the girls meet with a team score of 43. Other team scores were: 2) Bloomington South 49, 3) Avon 60, 4) Bloomington North 72, 5) Gibson Southern 158, 6) Columbus East 162, 7) Providence 206. Jessica Hegedus of Avon won the meet in a time of 18:32.84. Other Gibson Southern runners' times were: Payton Stocker 83rd 26:34, Lilly Spin- dler 87th 27:03, Kennedy Ping 95th 28:37, Keelyn Wilkerson 96th 28:54, Hadassah Hutchin- son 105th 33:57. Owensville wins 8th grade tourney Owensville's eighth grade volleyball team won the 2022 Pre-Season tourney on Saturday. They beat Haubstadt, Fort Branch and North Posey to win the tourney. Reserve hunt sign-ups open Starting Aug. 22, hunters can apply for a variety of re- ser ved hunts via on.IN.gov/ reser vedhunt. The online method is the only way to apply for the hunts listed below. No late entries will be accepted. Applicants must possess a hunting license that is valid for the hunt for which they apply. Hunters will be selected through a random comput- erized drawing. Applicants can view draw results online within two weeks after the application period closes. An email will be sent to all appli- cants when draws have been completed. Applications must be sub- mitted by 11:59 p.m. ET on Sept. 23: Fish & Wildlife Area (FWA) Waterfowl Hunts: Participating FWAs include Goose Pond, Hovey Lake, Kingsbur y, Kankakee, and LaSalle. Province Pond Wet- land Conser vation Area, managed by J.E. Roush Lake FWA, will also participate. FWA Deer Hunts: Deer Creek and Fairbanks Land- ing FWAs will host firearm season hunts. State Park Deer Hunts: State Parks participating in- clude Brown County, Chain O'Lakes, Charlestown, Fort Harrison, Harmonie, Lin- coln, McCormick's Creek, Ouabache, Pokagon, Po- tato Creek, Prophetstown, Shades, Shakamak, Summit Lake, Tippecanoe River, and Whitewater Memorial. Trine State Recreation Area and Cave River Valley Natural Area will also participate. National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Deer Hunts: Proper- ties participating include Big Oaks NWR and Muscatatuck NWR will host hunts for ar- cher y, firearms, and muzzle- loader deer hunts. November Game Bird Area (GBA) Hunts: Partic- ipating GBAs in northern Indiana are in Benton, Jas- per, Newton, Warren, and White counties. Hunters may choose from a variety of dates. These hunts are not put/take pheasant hunts. Indiana Private Lands Access (IPLA) Hunts: IPLA will offer reser ved hunts for game bird and deer on pri- vate lands. Additional hunting oppor- tunities: Camp Atterbur y (National Guard property) is not allo- cating deer hunting oppor- tunities through the Indiana DNR reser vation system. Please note that for oppor- tunities allocated through the Indiana DNR reser vation system, only one applica- tion per hunt is allowed. No changes can be made once an application is submitted. The application process is consolidated into the online ser vices website along with licenses, CheckIN Game, and HIP registration. An on- line account is not required to apply, but a Customer ID number is needed. In this system, hunts without a registration fee will follow the same pro- cess as those with a fee. To register for hunts with no fee required, applicants will be asked to "Add to Cart," "Proceed to Checkout," and "Place Order." If the transac- tion total is $0, the applicant will not be asked to enter credit card information. Ap- plicants must place an order to submit their application. Balanced scoring leads Titan volleyball to 3-0 win over Boonville in season opener By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Souther n's vol- leyball team opened their season with a 3-0 win over Boonville on Thursday night. They had even point production as four girls had seven or more kills in the game. The Titans won the first game 25-20 and came from behind in the second game to win 25-22, and then 25-17 in the third game. "The girls did a great job on our opener vs. Boonville. We had solid blocking, at- tacking and scrappy defense. We will continue to work on bettering our first touch on ser ve receive," said Titan Coach Emily Schmitt. Freshman Loren Carl had 8 kills while Laur yn Adamson, Abbeal and Alex- is Tucker each had seven. Carl, R ylee Johnson, Emily Holzmeyer and Tucker all had two ser ving aces. Adamson led the team in digs with 10 while John- son had seven and Carl and Tucker five each.
