"How lovely is your dwell- ing place, O Lord of Heaven's armies, I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole be- ing, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God" (Psalm 84:1,2,3 NLT), The writer longed to get away from the bustling world to meet God inside his dwell- ing place, his holy Temple. We can meet God anywhere, at any time. But we know that going into a church building can help us step aside from the busy mainstream of life so that we can pray and meditate. We find joy and strength not only in prayers but also in fel- lowship with other believers, the sermon and the music in such a special place. We are remembering those in pray who are in need of healing, whether it is physical or spiritual. May the Lord hear and answer our prayers. We invite you to worship with us. The furor surrounding the recent supreme court's ruling overturning Roe V Wade has continued unabated. It is ap- parent the democratically con- trolled congress is determined to make abortion an election year issue for the fall. With the border leaking like a sieve, inflation at record highs, gas- oline and food prices skyrock- eting, crime in democratically controlled cities out of control, people fed up with wokeness, and the president's approval rating in the tank, they have few positives to campaign on. Democrats pegging their elec- tion hopes on abortion rights seems shortsighted. The "deplorables and fly- over people" can see through the news media's attempt to put a positive spin on the com- ing economic catastrophe. In- terest rates are rising which translates into people curtail- ing buying homes, new cars, and other big-ticket items. As food and gas prices remain at record highs people's spend- ing habits will change. People will curtail eating out, going to movies, and taking expensive trips. This will have a domino effect on the economy. Re- cession is a word on the lips of financial experts and some political talking heads. Not to mention the billions of dollars being dropped down the dark hole of the defense industr y. Yet abortion remains the hot issue. As I read this morning's Minutes with the Bible By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam The day of itching ears For the professing Church the day of theological con- troversy has passed. Ecu- menism is now the word on ever y tongue. Church leaders appear to have become con- vinced that the stifling con- fusion in the Church can be overcome only by all of us get- ting together, minimizing our differences and emphasizing those doctrines on which we all agree. As a result some of the most important doctrines of Scripture are neither de- nied nor affirmed; they are ig- nored. But little matter, for the objective now is not to be true to the written Word of God, but to see to it that the Church is "strong" and commands the world's respect. Ecumenism, sad to say, has made significant inroads among evangelical believers too. All too seldom do men of God stand up to defend by the Scriptures the truths they believe and proclaim. Theo- logical debate has given place to the dialogue, in which two individuals or groups sit down together to discuss their dif- ferences and see if there is Ramblings of my mind By Lowell Thomas Instead of Howdy Doodey time, it is time to ramble. Some weeks are packed full of happenings and some weeks are a little slow, but this past week has been a reasonably good week with some fun things to mention. Hopefully we have had our share of heat produced down- draft storms and messes from their wrath. I can't remember having that many days of high humidity and heat last as long as it seemed these hot days and winds lasted. Hopefully it is going to be calmer for awhile. Our cable and phone ser vice was out again, but it was out mostly during the night time so we didn't miss it as much. I have to give a vote of credit to the lab techs at Deaconess Clinic in the Petersburg office. They took my sample and I had my results early that afternoon so I could make plans with my doctor. It did show I was wee bit high on one of my tests so an appointment was needed. I told you I had some good things to say, and as our grandkids were with us when Mamaw had to get a shot. The golden years are not so easy to accept at times. Well the good thing to say here is our grand- kids were really good for Pa- paw and made the wait easy. This past week was fair week and it seems as though you can't make plans, because fair week and rain showers just go togeher. The musicians who were slated to perform on Thursday were cancelled, but Friday evening we all got to perform because the weather was excellent for ever yone. We had a blast playing the in- strumentals Tony and Dustin were playing and I got to use some ability I didn;t even know I had. I don't know if the owner of the trailer that had been placed on the sandbar on the Ohio River has retrieved it yet, but we drove down Riverside Drive and got to see the fa- mous trailer. It was a strange sight to see. The owner was told by the different news channels that they needed to get it before it became an obstruction to river See POINTS on page 3 See MINUTES on page 3 See MIND on page 3 Parts Discount Week 10% Off Parts Aug 8-13 QUALITY PARTS FROM We service what we sell! 407 E.
