Poplar Street, Petersburg Deadline: 5 p.m. on Monday DONALD BREWSTER Donald Kent "DK" Brew- ster, loving husband of Sher- rie Brewster, adored dad to Cody and Jaimee Brewster and cherished grandpa of eight, entered into rest on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Cox Medical Center in Bran- son, MO at the age of 79. DK was born to Bernard and Flossie (Purl) Brewster on August 18, 1942 in In- diana. He led a full and ac- complished life, owning and operating his own electrical company and being an ac- complished musician, sing- ing and playing music with his band that opened for art- ists including George Jones. He also received Dove Awards for his accomplish- ments as a song writer. On December 31, 1982, DK mar- ried Sherrie McCandless in Petersburg. They moved to Hollister from Melbourne, FL. DK was a man of faith and founder of The Best is Yet to Come Ministries. DK is survived by his wife Sherrie of Hollister; son Cody Brewster and wife Eliza- beth of Springfield, MO and daughter Jaimee Brewster of Hollister, along with his eight grandchildren, Michael, Chad, Isiah, Corbin, Kade, Khloie, Kameron and Kynz- lie. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and his precious daughter Krista Cox. Visitation was at July 20, 2022 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Snapp- Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory, Branson. M cKINNEY Elizabeth Ann McKinney, 70, of Aledo, Ill., passed away Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Uni- ty Point - Trinity, in Rock Is- land. She was born April 16, 1952, in Washington, the daughter of Elza and Loretta Swain Kendall. She married Ricky Joe McKinney Decem- ber 2, 1977, in Petersburg. She graduated from the Nursing Program at Vin- cennes College and practiced in her field until the birth of her son, Joshua. This is when she began her favorite job of all, full-time Mom. She was a member of the Freedom Assembly of God Church in Davenport, Iowa. She enjoyed studying the Bible, listening to Southern Gospel music and taking care of her little dog, Zoey. Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her husband, Rick; son, Josh- ua (Kim) McKinney, of Bet- tendorf, Iowa; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; paternal grandparents, Simon and Ella Kendall; and maternal grandparents, Orval and Lura Swain. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Nichols Bewley Funeral and Cremation Ser- vices, Aledo, with Pastor Dar- ren Larkin officiating. Wood, 75, of Pe- tersburg, passed away Friday, July 22, 2022, at Amber Man- or. She was born on July 8, 1947, in Santo Domingo, Do- minican Republic, to Marcial Pou Ricart and Gladys Maria Leon Pereira. She was a homemaker deeply devoted to caring for (and spoiling) her be- loved grandchildren and great-grandchild. She is survived by her hus- band of 53 years, Don Wood, of Petersburg; sons, Marcial (Beth) Wood, of Petersburg, and Tony (David) Wood. of Alexandria, Va.; three grand- children; a great-grandchild; and sister, Matilde Maria Pou Leon, of Santo Domingo, Do- minican Republic. She was born in Gary, on June 3, 1958 to Loren and Joann (Stone) Hill. She was a 1976 graduate of Pike Central High School. She went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work at University of Evans- ville and a Masters Degree of Social Work from Louis- ville University. She spent 34 years in the social work field serving others and her com- munity. She is survived by her hus- band of 44 years, Benny Tool- ey; her children, Adam ( Jes- sica) Tooley, of Otwell and Abby (Brad) Gillum, of Bed- ford; grandchildren, Estelyn Violet Tooley and Joanna Kay Gillum; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; and step-father, Wayne Stone. JONES Herschel L. Jones, age 76, of Winslow, passed away at 7:01 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022, at home surrounded by family. He was born in Glezen, No- vember 18, 1945, to Melvin and Mabel (Coleman) Jones. He married Sandra Hill on August 10, 1963, at Mt. Olive Church in Otwell. He retired from Indiana Furniture, where he had worked for more than 40 years. He was a member of Glezen General Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He had a strong passion for leading people to Christ, and was also a mem- ber of the Gideons Interna- tional. He loved hunting, fish- ing, and spending time with his family. Surviving is his wife Sandy Hill, of Winslow, four chil- dren, Stacy (Kurt) Green- er, St. Charles, MO, Sheila (Blair) Hawkins, Vincennes, Herschel A. BLANTON Michael Ellis Blanton, 62, of Fort Branch, Indiana, passed away at Gibson Gen- eral Hospital in Princeton, IN, on July 18, 2022. He was born to the late Bobby Joe and Lois (Sulli- van) Blanton on August 21, 1959, in Princeton. Mike graduated from Gib- son Southern High School in 1978. He has worked for the Gibson County Highway Department for 40 years and retired in January of this year. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #215. Mike is survived by his sib- lings, Larry (Rita) Blanton of Fort Branch, and Judy (Sam) Frederick of Darmstadt; niec- es and nephews, Alex Fred- erick, Michelle Frederick, Stephanie (Edgar Marquez) Dunning, and Melissa (Di Koester) Blanton; and great nieces and nephews, Atticus, Eloise, and Foley Blanton. LELA "K AY" PIERCE Lela "Kay" (Lawson) Pierce, passed away peaceful- ly in her sleep on the morning of July 20, 2022, at her home in Patoka. Kay was born June 8, 1943 in Hawsville, Ky. to Sheril and Pauline (Frashure) Law- son. On January 10, 1963, she married Roy Pierce, in Ow- ensboro, Ky. She worked for 27 years at the Gibson County Court- house as a custodian where her attention to detail was appreciated by those she served. She attended the Princeton Holiness Taber- nacle and loved her church family. She is lovingly re- membered for enjoying yard sales, Dr. Pepper, ice cream, corn bread, riding in her son's semi-truck, playing Skip'Bo, traveling to see her children and grandchildren, long phone calls, cleaning, organizing and sitting on her porch swing. She loved life to the fullest and found joy and contentment in the little things. She is remembered for her kindness and friendli- ness. She loved her Lord, her family and her many friends. Her contagious smile, joyous laughter and genuine care for others impacted many throughout her lifetime. She is survived by her six children, Paula (Tom) Ken- nedy, of Olin, N. C., Martha (Kevin) Anderson, of Owens- ville, Elizabeth (Tim) Wiford, of Anderson, David (Christi- na) Pierce, of Borden, Anna (Chris) Besselman, of Rose- ville, Mich. and Mary (Doug) Derscheid, of Evart, Mich; 23 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. MARY BUFFINGTON Mary Buffington, 62, Tuc- son, Ariz.formerly of Dale, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. MST with her husband Gary by her side after suffering a massive heart attack. She was born on Septem- ber 12, 1959, in Jasper to Ed- mund ( Jack) and Katherine Heeke and graduated from Jasper High School in 1978. She married Gary Buffing- ton on November 4, 1979, in Jasper. She is survived by her hus- band Gary, of Tucson Ariz.; three sisters, Carol (Larry) Zehr, of Otwell, Linda Trill, of Jasper and Rose (Kenny) Leisman, of Saint Anthony. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bill Heeke and sister Betty Robbins. A memorial service is be- ing planned for a later date in Dale. Couts, 83, of Oak- land City, entered into rest on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at his home surrounded by his lov- ing family. He was born on December 12, 1938, to the late Charles and Minnie Couts. He attended Ayrshire Val- ley General Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. He retired from Peabody Coal Company Lynnville Mine af- ter 33 and a half years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially attending the many activi- ties of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, some- times multiple events in the same day. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Marcia, to every state in the country, except Hawaii. They also traveled outside the country on sever- al missions trips. He is survived by his wife, Marcia (Black) Couts, they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversa- ry on July 29, 2022. He is also survived by sons, Mike (Kerri) Couts, Steve (Pam) Couts; daughter, Barb Barr; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and sev- eral nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Louella Well- meyer, Mary Hunley, and Margaret Rothrock; and four brothers, Bill, Bob, Kenneth, and Jack. LambBasham.com REBECCA KIRBY Rebecca Kirby, age 72, Al- bany, died Sunday July 24, 2022 at IU Health Ball Memo- rial Hospital following a sud- den illness. Born in Sullivan, Indiana on March 4, 1950, she gradu- ated from Oakland City High School (now Wood Memo- rial High School) and Ball State University where she received a Masters degree in Education. Rebecca taught high school Mathematics for the Madison Grant United School Corporation for 28 years then was a librarian for 10 additional years. She retired in 2013. Rebecca was a member of Albany United Methodist Church and board member/volunteer at the Albany Community Library. She loved traveling, books/ reading, and water aerobics at the Y.W.C.A. in Muncie. She organized and participated in retired teacher luncheons and loved to share photos of and to brag about her grand- children. She is survived by her son Jason Kirby (Elizabeth), of Kenosha, Wi.; sister: Sarah Boger (Arnold), of Peters- burg, and four grandchildren: Ian Ray, Alison Marie, James Russell, and Ella Grace. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Kirby, who died in 1993; her daughter: Shannon Kirby in 1992, and parents: Abraham and Helen (Stewart) Mercer. PAULINE MAY FOSTER Pauline May Foster, 93, of Washington Court House, Ohio, passed away Friday, December 17, 2021 at 2:24 a.m., surrounded by family, at Adena Medical Center-Chilli- cothe where she had been a patient since December 6. She was born December 26, 1927, in Otwell, to James and Ella (Traylor) Pride. A fter Graduating from Ot- well High School in 1946 and attending Lockyear's Busi- ness College, she met and married King Donovan Fos- ter on September 6th, 1952, in Evansville. She was a hard-working wife and mother that could take any task on, from work- ing in a tomato cannery, to the Evansville Printing Corporation, to utilizing ac- counting skills at Buckeye Steel and finishing her career for over 25 + years at Select Sires in Plain City, Ohio. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for both of her sons, loved creating ceramic and pottery pieces, enjoyed knitting and spending time reading. She was a devout member of Epworth Method- ist Church in Columbus, Ohio for many years, until moving to Washington Court House where she attended St An- drews Episcopal Church. She is survived by her two sons, Keith (Leah) Foster, of Washington Court House and Kent (Constance) Foster, of Cardington, Ohio; four grand- children; two step-grandchil- dren; and many beloved niec- es and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, King Foster, on April 24th, 2009; and siblings Hilbert ( Juanita) Pride; Maurice (Ginnie) Pride; Lela (Bill) Bigham; Marvin (Ernestine) Pride; Delmer (Frances) Pride; Ronald (Margaret) Pride; Walden Pride; Louan- na (Lloyd) Yeager; Cletus (Candy) Pride; Lorraine Pride (Pauline's Twin Sister) and a step-grandson. She was born in Pike Coun- ty on October 16, 1941, to the late A.J. and Hazel Miller (Loveless). She spent most of her adult life working odd jobs but mostly as a homemaker. She was also a responsible and loving mother that enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She is survived by her lov- ing son, James D. Willis; and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, A.J. and Ha- zel Miller (Loveless); hus- band, Neval Willis, whom she was married for 48 years; a grand-daughter; and two brothers, Jim and Homer Miller. Chris was born on August 20, 1975 in Vincennes and he is the son of Thomas and Janet (Coleman) Daugher- ity. In 2003, he married Jen- nifer English and have two sons, Dylan and Christian Daugherity that they are so proud of. He attended Lincoln High School and graduated from Rivet High School. He was the owner of Daugherity Auction where he was a third-generation auctioneer. He had owned Sundown Pro- ductions where he enjoyed being a DJ for many years, and also has worked at Good Samaritan Hospital for 10 years in the surgery depart- ment. He was proud of the fact that he coached YMCA basketball and Rivet track for 3 years where he loved teach- ing the students how to better themselves. Collecting Dis- ney memorabilia and making memories at Disney World was sure to bring a smile to Chris's face. He loved any- thing Disney and especially enjoyed taking Dylan and Christian there. He is survived by his par- ents, Thomas and Janet; sis- ter, Brooke (Kyle) Williams; father and mother in law, Richard and Marilyn English; brother in law, Jason English; three nephews; and a niece. He is preceded in death by his uncle, Ralph Colman Jr.; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Lillian Coleman; and paternal grandparents, George Rogers and Rita Daugherity. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2022, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. There will be a private ser- vice at a later date.
