Many people crochet for family, friends, and even themselves. While it's fun to create and share with them, there's many that are disadvantaged throughout the Carolinas...and have never owned a special crocheted item before…..ever! The Neal Center is beginning a "Crocheting for Charity" group that creates items for the less fortu- nate all throughout our area. Led by local craft expert Gretchen Nicholas, the group will create hats, scarves, and blankets that will be donated to local agencies. Those agencies will distribute them to those are less fortunate. Imagine the thrill from someone who's never owned a crocheted item that will now have something of their own! The group meets the first and third Thursdays of each month, with the first meeting set for June 16th at the Neal Center. It will meet from 9AM to 10:30AM. Participants will need a size "G" or "H" cro- chet hook and any type of yarn that can create an item that can be washed and dried. Crochet- ing experience is preferred. If you'd like to take part in this special activity, please contact the Neal Center at 704/482-3488 and give your name and phone number to the receptionist. There is space for 5-10 participants. The group is free of charge, though a $2 donation per person for each meeting is appreciated by the Neal Center. By making a special crocheted item for someone who is disadvantaged, you will be "making their day"!
