She was born in York County, SC, daughter of the late Vester and Martha Peterson Martin and was preceded in death by her husband, JC Ayers, a daugh- ter, Rita Davis, four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her sons: Steve Ayers, Larry Ayers, and Bryan Ayers; daughters: Debbie Jones and Sheila Sees; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Roger leaves behind to cherish his memories his two daughters, Cynthia Smith and husband Daniel Smith and Reba Donaldson and husband Michael Donaldson; two grandchildren; one brother, Larry Tallent and wife Helen Tallent; and girl- friend, Tara Wright. STONEWALL JACKSON OATES Mr. Stonewall Jackson Oates passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022. He was born on January 5, 1940 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Charles M. and Lucy Hunter Oates. Mr. Oates served our coun- try in the US Army. In addition to his parents, he was pre- ceded in death by his brothers, Charles Oates Jr., Samuel W. Oates, and Joseph Donald Oates; and three sisters, Barbara Oates Schenck, Idola Oates, and Rev. Dr. Virginia Oates Henderson. SUE GEORGE RIPPY Sue George Rippy, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday May 25, 2022. A native of Cleveland County, she was born October 19, 1935. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rippy is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Rippy; one son, Mike Rippy; one son-in-law, Lanny Ollis; one granddaughter; three brothers, Lloyd, Jack, and Bob George; and five sisters, Macy George, Mae Francis, Ora Hawkins, Tootsie Wilkerson, and Nancy Jolly. Born in Cleveland County, on January 8, 1935, she was a daughter of the late James Franklin Mellon and Macie Jane Philbeck Mellon. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Grover Philbeck; two sons, Richard Wayne Philbeck and Gary Neil Philbeck; a brother, Herman Mellon, and a sister, Iva Moore. She is survived by a son, Mike Philbeck and wife Diane of Shelby; two daughters, Shirley Philbeck and Sandy Charles both of Shelby; a sister, Virginia Pearson of Shelby; nine grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchil- dren and six great-great- grandchildren.
