Enterprise Galaxy Exploration Prequel (New) Civilizations As "The Chase" returns for Season 3, host Sara Haines is back, but some of the "Chasers" are new. ABC's version of the game show returns Tuesday, May 3, with contestants building a money bank by answering general-interest questions posed rapid-fire by Haines ... then risking their banks against trivia experts who can knock them out of the game by correctly answering multiple-choice questions they're both given. "Jeopardy!" alums James Holzhauer and Brad Ritter are back as challengers, but several "Chase" newcomers also pose hurdles. Victoria Groce is known as "The Queen" of trivia from her success in online competitions; Brandon Blackwell, alias "The Lightning Bolt," is a master of speed trivia contests; and Buzzy Cohen, also known to "Jeopardy!" viewers (in part for winning the 2017 Tournament of Champions), was labeled "Mr. Personality" by that program's late host Alex Trebek. "Just when I feel like it can't get better, it does," the ever-friendly Haines maintains of "The Chase's" third round. "It was hard to not just be a fan while I was taping the show and getting to know these new Chasers. I'd met them as people and was impressed, but to see them take that chair like they had been there the whole time was really cool to witness. And they are fierce!" That one of them is a woman is significant to Haines, the show's lone female regular up to now. "I've told Victoria that every time I look at her, I think, 'I could do that. I could be a Chaser.' " While she's excited to introduce new Chasers, Haines admits to missing the ones who have left, Ken Jennings – a top "Jeopardy!" winner who now shares hosting duties on that syndicated show with Mayim Bialik – and Mark "The Beast" Labbett. She deems the former "an adorable mix of a fierce Chaser and a charmer" and the latter "everything I needed him to be." Also continuing as a co-host of ABC's "The View," though she recently took off two week-long chunks from that weekday talk show to tape the new season of "The Chase," Haines admits that her question- asking skill – which gets a huge workout in any given hour of the contest – is a continual work in progress. "I made them check the number of questions I'm getting through," she says of the most recent tapings, "and technically, I'm right up to par with last season. I'm trying to be more clear, though. There are times when I find that I make mistakes when my brain gets ahead of my mouth. I don't want to be the reason someone doesn't hear a question or it's not said correctly, so I take deep pride in doing it right."
