We were excited to transform the room into a construction zone where we were able to mea- sure different areas and pe- rimeters. Learning is fun in engaging environments. Last week we were able to watch the fourth and fifth grade Holy Thursday. It was a very powerful performance that touched many of us. It made us feel the true mean- ing of the Easter season. We were blessed to have had the opportunity to attend. In science we just finished up a unit on weather, where all the students were able to code their very own weather station. We then followed this unit up with talking about ex- treme weather in the area. Students were able to discuss extreme weather all over the world. We then learned about different architecture and why structures are built a certain way in different areas. Stu- dents then built their own structures to test if they could withstand extreme weather conditions. FOURTH GRADE NEWS We are beginning our ILEARN tests this week. We have taken part of the read- ing test and it has taken us two days. We only take it in the morning, so that we don't get too tired. Just taking it in the morning for two days we have worked over two and a half hours on just one test. We will finish the rest of the read- ing test Thursday and Friday. It is really a long test and our brains are tired when we fin- ish. We have math and science tests to do yet. Even with the ILEARN tests Sister says we have to continue working in class and doing homework and tak- ing tests just like always. We will be really glad when the ILEARN is over, but we do like the little snack Sister gives us after the test. Last Thursday we and the fifth graders had the Holy Thursday Service and it was great. We all remembered what we were supposed to do especially the kids who did the dancing and those who brought the ashes up. The ashes were papers that we wrote things we were sorry for doing. Sister burned them and that's how we got the ash- es. The kids who brought the bread up did a good job re- membering the gesturing they had to do to the song. It was all really nice. The adults who were there really liked it too. Mrs. Laura Ziliak al- ways makes the bread for us to use for the Service, and any bread that is left over we get to eat. That is one the best parts for us. We were a little afraid that we would not have enough nails for everyone to put a nail in the cross, but Sister assured us that there would be enough and there were enough. We will get to do it again next year, because we will be fifth graders and we will get to help. This Friday we have a field trip to the 4-H Fair Grounds. See, the firemen have this pro- gram called 'Survive Alive.' It tells us how to survive a fire and how to keep a fire from happening. They have this cool video which tells us how long we have to get out of a house once it is on fire. Sis- ter says it's about a minute, so we have to have fire drills at home so we know what to do. We may even get to crawl out of a room that is filled with fake smoke. It sounds like a re- ally neat field trip. We are still working hard in all of our classes, because there are some concepts we need to learn before we go to the fifth grade. Sister said we have five weeks of school left and we couldn't believe that the year is almost over. We like fourth grade and would like a little more time in this room. Well, that is about all we have time for. It is time to get back to work. Thanks for lis- tening to us and please be careful and stay healthy. Hope you all had a Happy Easter! Take care and God bless you all. FIFTH GRADE NEWS As we wind down to the last few weeks of school, the fifth grade has been working dili- gently to complete their last few concepts of the year. With only a few weeks left, we real- ize that we have really learned quite a bit this year. In math, we are working on data analysis topics. We have learned how to find mean, me- dian, and mode, and are work- ing on reading graphs. We will continue to work on convert- ing measurements over the next few weeks. In social studies, we have read about the first few presi- dents and the creation of our nation's capital. We have dis- covered how the Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of our country, and how Lewis and Clark explored the new territory. We will soon be reading about the War of 1812 and its effects on the new na- tion. During Holy Week, the fourth and fifth grade worked together to perform a Ho- ly Thursday service for the school and parish communi- ty. Under the leadership of Sr. Irma, the students recre- ated the last few days of Je- sus's life. Due to Covid, this had not been done for the past two years. It was a great feel- ing to be able to bring this tra- dition back to our school once again. Starting last week, we be- gan the yearly testing of ILEARN. This test covers what we have learned over the entire school year. We have completed the English/ Language Arts portion of the test, and we will continue with the math portion next week. Although difficult at times, we will persevere and do our best. Construction Site Transformation Day.
