With a meal by platinum sponsor Dressing on the Side, the menu will feature options for everyone: oysters, shrimp, blackened chicken, baked potato bar, salad bar, and dessert. Tick- ets will include one drink, and a cash bar will be available through the venue. The event will also include live music, a silent auction, and a raffl e for a collection of board members' favor- ite wines paired with a certifi cate for a char- cuterie board from Dressing on the Side. A unique local offering twice postponed by the pandemic, the evening made possible through the support of gold sponsor Dr. Patrick Vollmer of Clinical Ophthalmic Research Ex- ploration (CORE), will create an opportunity for fellowship while supporting programming for vulnerable students in Cleveland County. CIS President and Chief Executive Offi cer Heather Bridges Moore says the organization is elated to be offering the event, as it not only provides a distinctive occasion for socializing, but it also creates a platform for awareness related to the needs of local students that sometimes go un- noticed. Many Cleveland County residents may be unaware of the signifi cant challenges facing local students, like trauma and a lack of sup- port at home that is expressed through behav- ior and poor school attendance that ultimately affects academic performance. "Our organization's role is to provide in- school and after-school services to those stu- dents who need extra support. We dig in to fi nd the barriers that may be going unnoticed, and we strive to mitigate them – whether it's fi nding a student a safe place to sleep at night or pro- viding school supplies and hygiene products to increase their preparedness and confi dence, we are here to help keep kids in school, what- ever it takes." Bridges Moore says. Tickets are $50 each or 2/$85 and can be purchased at cisofclevelandco.org/events. Festive coastal attire is encouraged but not required. For more information, call Commu- nities In Schools of Cleveland County at 704- 480-5569. Communities In Schools (CIS) is chang- ing the picture of education for students in Cleveland County. CIS combines the art of one-on-one relationships with the science of evidence-based programs, and mobilizes community resources and supports to achieve results by removing barriers that keep students from succeeding in school and life. The organi- zation also focuses on juvenile-justice-related programming to provide an additional layer of support for youth.
