POWELL CF Media michael@cfmedia.info A great way to spend some quality family time this Thanksgiving is to give to oth- ers. And a way to do that is to give a gift- filled shoebox for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child, noted Ms. Zette Zbinden, of the N.C.-based Christian organization. Though the actu- al Nov. 22 deadline for packing them and sending them to local delivery sites has passed, she reminded every- one that, as noted on their web- site, "…you can also physically drop off shoebox gifts year-round at any one of our five Ministry Centers." (check their website for those locations). She also mentioned that only their Boone and Charlotte loca- tions are able to accept mailed gifts. Said Ms. Zbinden via email, "Although National Collection Week is always the third week of November (just before Thanksgiving) and wrapped up this year on Monday, Nov. 22, many shoebox packers pack year-round and even choose to Build a Shoebox Online." She continued, "If you do pack a shoebox after National Collection Week you can bring them to one of our eight (8) processing centers. The closest one to Shelby, NC, would be the Charlotte processing center. People will be processing the shoeboxes until mid-December!" The Charlotte Processing Center's address is as fol- lows: 7100 Forest Point Blvd., Charlotte, NC, 28217-8000. For more drop-off information and addresses, visit their drop- off locations landing page on the Samaritan's Purse, Operation Christmas Child web site at www. samaritanspurse.org. The build online information can be found on their website. Zbinden noted their volun- teer leadership aimed to collect 21,000 shoebox gifts across the Western Piedmont NC Area Team. Operation Christmas Child has been collecting and deliver- ing shoebox gifts – filled with school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys – to children world- wide since 1993, Zbinden said. "In the midst of the pandemic, children around the world need to know that God loves them and there is hope," said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan's Purse. "A simple shoebox gift opens the door to share about the true hope that can only be found in Jesus Christ." Participants can find more drop-off locations and hours of operation as they make plans to drop off or mail their shoebox gifts using the online lookup tool, which is searchable by city or zip code, said Ms. Zbinden. For more information or to reach the Charlotte drop-off site call (704) 583-1463. Operation Christmas Child gift boxes a great Thanksgiving family project Matt and Renee Brinton of Shelby, N.C., volunteered at the Boone Processing Center to prepare shoebox gifts for international shipment. (photos provided) For all the volunteers, OCC shoebox packing is a great group activity! In the United States, once every hour in the processing centers, volun- teers pause from their work to pray over shoebox gifts. Samaritan's Purse President Franklin Graham encourages a girl in Belize as she explores the new items she found in her shoebox.
