It is a place absent of love, peace, and joy, and filled with never-ending, fiery torment, darkness, and pain. According to Matthew 25:41, it was created for the devil and his crew. This dread- ful place is called "Hell". Despite the horrors of hell, many people choose to go there of their own free will. Jesus states in Matthew 7:13 (NLT), "You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way." Which Way Are You Headed? Attending a church doesn't make you a dis- ciple of Jesus, no more than sitting in a car ga- rage would make you a vehicle. By the way, I am not saying don't go to a local church. The point here is that God de- sires a dedicated heart toward him. He is not impressed with religious activities that are missing an obedi- ent and yielded life. In Luke 6:46 (NLT) Jesus asks, "So why do you keep calling me 'Lord, Lord!' when you don't do what I say?" Ponder on the following questions to help you identify if you are headed in the right direction: Do you have a sur- rendered heart to Jesus Christ that believes and strives to obey the Bible? Do you have godly sor- row for your mistakes, repent of your sins, and yield to God's will even when it's difficult? Do you strive to love God with everything within you? The Great Throne According to Revela- tion 20:11-15, one day everyone will stand be- fore God and be judged. When God opens up the movie curtains of your life and reveals every unholy or disobedient thought, word, and action of your life, it will be too late to es- cape the penalty for sin. But there is hope! You can become born again right now through repent- ing of your sins, believing in the sacrificial offer- ing of Christ (his death, burial, and resurrection), and receiving him as Lord and Savior. Romans 6:23 (ESV) says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eter- nal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Allow him to take the reins of your life. You won't regret it, and you will be prepared for eter- nity! PRAY THIS PRAYER: "Father I praise you as the righteous judge and lawgiver. I could never stand before you on my own merit. I am sin-in- fected and sin-contam- inated. My best efforts are like grease-stained rags. Without Jesus, I am headed in the wrong direction. Please, forgive me of my sins and hidden faults. Search my heart and take away anything that stands between you and me. Thank you for sending Jesus to take the penalty of sin for me. I choose to surrender to Christ. I believe and re- ceive Jesus as my Savior and Lord. I ask you to fill me with the Holy Spirit. I want to be with you bask- ing in your love and Pres- ence, now and throughout eternity. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen." A Dreadful Place . Please Call Neil or Brenda at Morris Scrap Metal for All Your Building, Recycling and Waste Removal Services. Bobbing for apples long has been a classic autumn activ- ity. Yet today's children may not know what it entails. Bobbing for apples is a tradition that began in Eu- rope hundreds of years ago as a courting ritual or a way to see who would get mar- ried next. When Europeans settled in the United States and Canada, they brought their apple bobbing traditions with them. However, over the years, bobbing evolved from an activity geared around ro- mance to one focused on fun for children. Apple bobbing has largely fallen out of favor as more parents zeroed in on the po- tential yuck factor of having several mouths and noses dunked into the same bucket of water trying to grab a Red Delicious or Granny Smith. The pandemic also undoubt- edly made some people skeptical about the safety of apple bobbing. Thankfully, there are alternatives for those who want to enjoy the spirit of apple bobbing with- out spreading germs. Hanging apples Tie strings to the stems of apples and hang each indi- vidual apple to a clothesline. Without using their hands, participants must consume the majority of the apple of their choosing. Whoever fin- ishes first wins a prize. Bobbing individually One workaround to create more hygienic fun is to give party participants their own separate bowls or buckets for bobbing. Plastic beverage tubs at dollar stores are in- expensive and readily avail- able. Fill them up with water and float two or three apples in each. Then the race is on for each participant to snag some apples. Grabbing for apples Kids need not use their jaws to grab apples. Kids can use small spoons, chop- sticks, a spatula — anything you can think of — to make it challenging to grab a floating apple. Symbolic 'apple' toss Fill up red water balloons with water and set up a tra- ditional water balloon toss. Participants pair up and toss the "apples" to one another, moving further and further away with each round. The last pair to have an intact "apple" wins. Bobbing for apples has fallen out of favor as con- cerns about hygiene have risen. However, there are ways to incorporate the fun parts of bobbing for apples without compromising kids' overall health. Hygienic alternatives to apple bobbing
