In the multitude of words there wasn't not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise. My beloved brethren, let ev- ery man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. In many things we offend all. If any man of- fend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. By thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should fol- low his steps: who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when he was re- viled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteous- ly. Consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wea- ried and faint in your mind. In their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your pres- ence will be appreciated and I'm sure you will feel the bless- ing of God. May God bless each and everyone. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter WINSLOW G.B. Mark Wade, Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Sunday morning worship service at 10 :30 a.m. A Time To Trust Many of us are increasingly uncomfortable with the direc- tion our world and our country seem to be heading. Observa- tions made in this article are not intended to be political. Re- gardless of political affiliation, there is a common concern for what appears to be uncon- trolled government spending, out of control inflation, and a sense that our House of Rep- resentatives and Senate seem more interested in their own political agendas than what is best for "we the people." Crime continues to increase across our country. There was a time when concerns about crime largely focused on ur- ban and metropolitan areas. Now, it is clear that rural com- munities across mid-America are not exempt from more se- rious crimes. It has become more challenging to know who to trust, i.e. politicians, media, and in many cases, religious leaders. Here's the truth. It has nev- er been a very good idea to trust in outside forces. This is not just cynicism; it is a re- minder of who we really can trust, the one creator, God, who gives us life, sustains us through all the challenges of life, who gives us strength in trouble and lifts us up when we need it the most. We trust in God knowing He does not disappoint, and does not let us down. He is always there and gives us hope that supersedes all the negativism so prevalent in life today. The God who gave His on- ly Son Jesus so we might have forgiveness and the promise of life eternal, is present, here VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. Time and Eternity Someone said, "So ma- ny are lost because in youth they are 'too young;' in man- hood, 'too busy;' in maturity, 'too worried;' when aged, 'too old;' when sick, 'too ill;' when dead, 'too late.'" The Bible says, "Behold, now is the acceptable time; be- hold, now is the day of salva- tion" (II Corinthians 6b). "Don't wait until it's too late." Because He Lives. Passage to Ponder "The end of a matter is bet- ter than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools. Do not say, "Why were the old days bet- ter than these? " For it is not wise to ask such questions. Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun. Wis- dom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it" (Ecclesiastes 7:8 -12, NIV ). God bless you and keep you. "Five times I received for- ty stripes, minus one; three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep; in journeys often in perils of water, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own country men, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the cities, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea; in perils of false breth- ren, in weariness and toil, in sleepiness often, in hunger and thirst, in fasting often in cold and nakedness" (II Corr. 11:25 -27). These are some of the tri- als Paul had during his suffer- ings just because of what he witnessed on the road to Da- mascus and trying to teach ev- eryone about the death, buri- al and resurrection of Christ. His faith in Christ was so strong he wrote most of his books while inside prison walls. He to could have de- nied Jesus Christ and lived. But Paul kept the Faith that Je- sus will come back some day. And preached his gospel right up to the moment of martyr- dom. It is believed that Nero had Paul beheaded because of his belief and at that time Ne- ro blamed Christians for the burning of Rome. "And you will be hated by all for My names sake. But he that endures to the end will be saved" (Matthew 10 :22). I have often thought of the words, "He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing pre- cious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him" (Psalm 126:6). Perhaps if there were more of that intense distress for souls that leads to tears, we should more frequently see the results we desire. Some- times it may be that while we are complaining of the hard- ness of the hearts of those we are seeking to benefit, the hardness of our own hearts and our own feeble appre- hension of the solemn reality of eternal things, may be the true cause of our want of suc- cess"—J.
