Youth ages seven through 18 will find plen- ty of activities, beginning at 8 a.m. with a provided breakfast. The no-charge day in the field includes darts, archery, BB gun, muzzle loader, .22 rifle, trap shooting and Chu - kar hunting over dogs. Registered participants will be in a random draw- ing for more than a doz- en rifles, shotguns and archery sets after a day of outdoor activities. The Pike County Bird Hunt- ers' Club is located five miles south of Petersburg on SR 57 and just two miles west on Division Road. Watch for signs. Do not bring any fire- arms to the event. All firearms and ammuni- tion will be provided by the club. Adults are en- couraged to attend, and will have breakfast and lunch for a donation. A Hunter Education Card is required for Chukar Hunting. A Hunter Safe- ty course for youth is be- ing offered August 2-6 at the Sugar Ridge Fish and Wildlife Headquar- ters building, just off SR 61 on SR 364. Following a day of out- door activities, there will be a search-and-rescue demonstration, followed by the random draw- ing for long guns and ar- chery sets. Pike Central cheer team participated in the NCA cheer camp July 29 through July 31, where they received a blue superior ribbon on their final chant and cheer evaluation, had 11 girls get nominated for All-American, received the Herkie Award, Stunt S.A.F.E. Award and a bid to Nationals in Texas. Along with winning all of these awards, three cheer- leaders tried out for All-Amer- ican, Katie Burkhart, Hannah Cassada and Emma McKin- ney. These cheerleaders won and made the NCA All-Ameri- can Team, giving them the op- portunity to travel to places like Florida and London, and work with other All-American Cheerleaders and participate in showcase parades. Emma McKinney, Pike Central se- nior, was also invited and giv- en an application to join the NCA Staff upon her gradua- tion. Cheer Coach Jamie McKin- ney stated, "We had a very suc- cessful NCA Cheer camp. We learned a lot of new material and cannot wait to showcase it. As of now, we get to travel to the away games, this is some- thing we didn't get to do last year, so we are really looking forward to it! We love cheering for our Chargers on the field and the court, and hope we get to continue all season." By Andy Heuring Pike Central's girls' golf season has started with two wins. Pike Central opened by beating Tecumseh 206 to 245 at the Boonville Coun- try Club. Senior Sophie Car- nahan led the way for the La- dy Chargers with a 49. Nevi Lemond and Chloe Williams both had 51, and Brailey Mills added a 55 for the team score. The Chargers also com- peted in a triangle meet at Prides Creek against Wash- ington and Barr Reeve. Washington won with a score of 208, just edging out the Chargers with 210. Barr Reeve was third with a team 216. Carnahan shot a 42 to lead the way for Pike Cen- tral. Coach Jarrod Gideon said Carnahan's 42 could have been better, but she had a triple bogey on hole six. Sydney Loveless shot a 52, followed by Lemond's 55, Ella McGuire's 58 and Mills' 61.
