Perinatal Loss Support – Expectant parents who sud- denly lose their child often experience a wide range of emo- tions and grief. Memorial Hospital and Health Care Cen- ter offers support to assist those who have experienced the loss of a child (conception to one month of age) through the grieving process, and provide an atmosphere of confiden- tiality and comfort. Grief Support Series-The death of a loved one, a child leaving home, overwhelming changes in one's personal life – each can cause profound grief and suffering. To offer reas- surance and comfort, Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center has developed a free support program called "Grief Support Series." In this program, participants will learn that grief is nor- mal, examine the various emotions of grief, be encouraged to face the pain, and find ways to make a healthy emotional withdrawal from the loss. Conducting the sessions will be Theresa O'Bryan, Hospital Chaplain, and Tom Holsworth, a clinical psychologist who has served as a co-facilitator of this program since its inception in 1991. Call for the next five-week program. Programs will be at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Centers Chapel. This program is free and space is limited. Area Reunions Benjamin and Burns host garden club The Petersburg Garden Club met July 14 at the Presbyterian Church, with hostesses Kay Benjamin and Sue Ann Burns. Churches do back-to-school right This year, Petersburg churches are stepping up for kids going back to school with giveaways and bashes. A few of them are the River of Life Church, House of Mercy and Petersburg Community Church. The Petersburg Communi- ty Church, located at 402 E. Il- linois St., Petersburg, will be having their Back-to-School Bash on Sunday, July 25, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., in the Steve Frederick Memorial Activi- ties Building. The bash will include free backpacks, hair- cuts and ice cream (while sup- plies last). Haircuts will be do- ne by the students from The Salon Professional Academy, along with their educators and a barber. All are donating their time to give back to the community. House of Mercy will host their Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, July 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church (across from Winslow Elementary). The event is for Winslow Ele- mentary students kindergar- ten through fifth grade. It will feature a school supplies give- away and freeze pops (while supplies last). Following this event, on Sunday, August 1, the River of Life Church will have its Back- to-School Giveaway starting at 6 p.m. The giveaway event will include free school sup- plies, clothes, shoes, back- packs, lunch boxes and food. All will be available while sup- plies last and children must be present to participate. River of Life Church is located at 342 E. CR 300 N., Petersburg. Everyone is welcome to all of these events.
