From these sprang the twelve tribes of Is- rael. These tribes had twelve princes over them (Numbers 1:16). Even when Israel was ruled by kings there were still to be twelve princes — one over each tribe (I Chroni- cles 27:22). Thus, as He went forth proclaiming "the gos- pel of the kingdom" our Lord chose twelve princes for the twelve thrones in the kingdom to come (Matt. 19:28). On the other hand, Paul, as one apostle, represents the "one Body," the Church of to- day (Rom.12:5; ICor. 12:13; Eph.4:4). However, he was both a born Hebrew and a born Roman, so represent- ed believing Jews and Gen- tiles "reconciled…unto God in one body by the cross…" (Eph.2:16). 4. The twelve were sent to proclaim Christ's kingdom "at hand" (Matt. 10 :7), and later to offer its establishment on earth (Acts 3:19 -26). But Paul was sent to proclaim "the gos- pel of the grace of God"(Acts 20 :24), while the kingdom is held in abeyance. 5. The ministry of the twelve was based on covenant promises (Isaiah 60 :1-3; Luke 1:70 -79; Acts 3:22-26). Paul's ministry was not based on covenant promises, but whol- ly on the grace of God through Christ (Rom.3:21-28; 5: 20,21; Eph.1:6,7; 2:7; etc.). It should be decent because some of their board has told me of their plans and I can't wait to see the finished proj- ect. I don't seem to want for something to do since retire- ment, because I try to make myself available, after all I do live here and I should take an interest in my community. My son needed me to make a trash run for him and dad hauled eight bags to the re- cycle center on Illinois St. I'm glad they aren't like their mom and I because we put so much trash in them that they become hard to handle. I sup- pose this is a good time for you to say you loaded them so deal with it. We mowed both yards. The yard where my mother lived sure gets hard to mow, if you leave it too long. I'm sorry but at times mowing this yard be- comes low on the priority list. Like I have said before, I have been in the ministry since 1985. I have filled many offices in that time span and have enjoyed working with people in all these capacities. There is one job I had nev- er had and that is being a Bi- ble school teacher. Well my chance showed up and my wife and I were teacher and helper as we taught some kiddos from three years old to teenagers. I only hope and pray they enjoyed it as much as I did. Our Bible school was only for a day and a half, but we certainly had enough time to make some lasting memo- ries. I have heard and experi- enced how God arranges things in your life and it hap- pened again Saturday after- noon. A young man who hap- pens to be 14 years old showed up selling Dewig meat for a project with the football team. The strange thing is I didn't know who the young boy who was going to play at the fair was until he told me his name. Things started clicking and then I realized just who Connor Loveless is. His par- ents have reason to be proud of him because he seems to be a great kid. Well, I had the privilege to bring the message and share worship service with Friend- ship General Baptist Church in Oakland City this past Sun- day. My thoughts had been led to talk about God preparing us to be a friend, rather than a judge when our family, friends and neighbors experience dif- ficulties in their lives. I have seen people ran away from worship because someone with great intentions makes the troubled person feel like they can't ever be worthy enough to go to Jesus. If you are trying to help someone be a guide and a friend rather than a judge. If you can serve the Lord by example in front of them. Maybe they will give their troubles to God and get on with their Christian lives. I always ask you to be bless- ing to someone this coming week and accept all blessings given to you. We will plan to do that as soon as possible. Normal weekly schedule is as follows: Sunday school starts at 9:30 a.m. with morn- ing worship starting at 10 :30 a.m. We are doing teen min- istry on Sunday nights at 5:30 p.m. during the summer. Our Wednesday program will start with an outdoor family night celebration September 15. We hope to have inflatables, but if not, we will have plenty of food and activities. We are still working out the details of the Wednesday night min- istry. With the loss of Shirley Graham, our preschool lead- er for the past 50 years, we have to adjust how we do min- istry. We plan to do ministry for children from preschool to high school. Time is still to be decided. The time will only be one hour this year, and we plan to start earlier if possible and we will provide transportation for those who need it. With school starting in Au- gust, that would be a good time for you to reconnect with us on Sunday morning. Most people have returned, but some are still being cau- tious. I can't overestimate the value of gathering together in person on Sunday morning, so we can take who we are in Christ, and apply it to every ar- ea of our lives. Peace and joy in the Lord. Use GPS! Many vacationers rely on a global positioning system to get them easily to a desti- nation. But in every season of life, God sends us on vocation — following his call to both feed our passions and serve others. Our "calling," Freder- ick Buechner said, is "where [our] deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet." But is there a GPS for voca- tion? It's not as detailed or pre- dictive as we'd like. It doesn't name our destination at the outset, and it offers general instructions rather than spe- cific directions. And we may end up "recalculating" our life route more often than our ve- hicle GPS recalculates our va- cation route. Even so, we travel in safe- ty. This "GPS" might stand for God's Peace and Strength, or Gospel Promises Sustain, God Provides Salvation or Go! Pro- claim! Serve! The GPS guid- ing our vocation speaks to us through Scripture, worship, trusted Christian friends, life events and the silence of our heart. Getting an idea, he picked up the celestial phone and called Lucifer. "I have three gentle- men who are ours, but their places aren't ready yet. Could you put them up for a couple of days? " The Devil reluctant- ly agreed. Two days later, St. Peter got a call. "Pete, this is Lucifer. You have to come get these three guys that are yours. This Pope guy is forgiv- ing everybody, the Graham fellow is saving everybody and Oral Roberts has raised enough money to buy air con- ditioning."
