Poplar Street, Petersburg In comparing the ministry of the twelve apostles with that of the Apostle Paul, we must observe carefully: 1. The twelve were chosen by Christ on earth (Luke 6:13) while Paul was later cho- sen by Christ in Heaven(Acts 9:3-5; 26:16). 2. Prior to Paul's conversion the twelve had known Christ only on earth (I John 1:1). Even at His ascension to heaven "a cloud received Him out of their sight" (Acts 1:9). But Paul knew Christ only in Heaven, having never seen Him on earth (Acts 26:16; I Cor. 15:8). 3. The twelve represented their own nation. The number twelve has no connection with the "one Body" of Christ. As we know, Jacob There are strange revolutionary things hap- pening in the organized church. For decades or even centuries Christians have expressed their faith through the local church. I still be- lieve this is the best way to guard and express our faith. During the past 30 years as local churches have worship, Sunday School and Bi- ble studies changes are taking place. According to one study, there are about 20 million Americans who think of themselves as revolutionaries and want more of a Book of Acts type way of worship. They want more of God in their lives but feel they are not find- ing it in many of the Wal- Mart type churches. They want a more personal faith experience and a pastor who is more of a Shepherd than a CEO. They feel when the churches try to be all things to all people there is something im- portant neglected. These people say they are less interested in attending church than being the church. Many predict the me- ga churches will begin to fade in the next two de- cades as their ego-cen- tered, charismatic lead- ers retire. The frustra- tion with big business at God's House is a re- sult of their frustration with church and many are searching for some new forms of organized spirituality. They want more of an individual- ized faith experience and expression. As peo- ple leave the local church and move from one church to another some will fall by the wayside and others may find a deeper, more New Tes- tament form of worship. Hopefully, whatever new trends come along there will be a deep- ening in faith and worship. Stam Do you all have a boat handy in case it keeps raining like pouring water from a bucket? I am certainly not complaining about something none of us can do anything about, but our rains lately have been soaking to the root rains. The ground can't hold much more. Oh well we live in Indiana and if you don't like the weather to- day just wait it will change. The rainy days were good because they pro- vided a chance to get away from the house and do some things together, which babysitting doesn't always allow. My wife even got to go one of her favorite stores and scarf up some bargains. We both like to go into the St. Vin- cent De Paul thrift store in Vincennes. I must admit you never know what treasure you will find. I do like to go there because it does help the church and the name over the door means little whenever it comes to helping God and His churches. Dene Bartley and I spent an hour and a half cleaning our Lions Club project road. It didn't have as much trash this time as the first time we picked up trash from it. If you see some- thing in our community that needs attention let us know. Somehow, if it is something we can work with we'll give it go. I sincerely hope we can gain a few members so these things can be handled easier. Our driveway edging is basically done and it looks better than it did. At least it caused us to trim back the ivy which had really gotten a lush green. It is pretty, but once it gets estab- lished it goes everywhere. Our stage project is ongoing and we have had plywood purchased by the 4H, so we can attached it to the ties we have laid out. Upcoming Events The LeFevre Quartet to perform in Petersburg, July 31 The LeFevre Quartet will be having a gospel concert in Petersburg at 402 E. Illinois Street on Saturday, July 31 at 7 p.m. EDT. Living Faith Church International host outdoor fun night this Saturday The Living Faith Church International, 601 S. 9th Street, Petersburg, will be hosting a free community outdoor fun night. There will be food, kids' games, cornhole, fireworks and showing the movie Toy Story, all starting at 7 p.m. Bring your own chairs and blankets. Gentle Shepherd Church of God host Praise and Worship service this Sunday Homeland with Ralph Clark and family will present a Praise and Worship service at Gentle Shepherd Church of God, 8350 East 350 North ( just west of Oatsville on the Oatsville/Wheeling Road), in Gibson County, on Sunday, July 25 at 6 p.m. (CDT).
