Public Library The Oakland City-Columbia Township Public Library will be hosting magician Don Baggett on Tuesday, June 29 at 10 a.m. CDT as part of the summer reading program. The show will be outside at Wirth Park, so families should bring their own blankets or chairs. The event will move to the shelter house in the event of rain. The program is open and free to everyone. Oakland City-Columbia Twp. Library to host expert from National Park Service Oakland City-Columbia Township Public Library will host an expert from the National Park Service as they travel virtually to the Rocky Mountain National Park on Thursday, July 1 at noon CDT. The experts will examine the essence of the park and the changes it has seen over the years. While geared towards adults, older children are welcomed to attend. New Deaconess Clinic opens Local officials, physicians and staff who will practice in the new building, proj- ect contributors, and members of Deaconess leadership were in attendance at a ribbon cutting for the new Deaconess Clinic Petersburg, located at 1004 E. Illi- nois Street. It is a replacement clinic for the current Deaconess Clinic Petersburg location. With more than 7,500 square feet of space, the new facility includes 15 exam rooms, one treatment room and a lab area. Drs. Gary Keepes and Nathanial Grow, along with nurse practitioners Toni Mar- tin and Alexandria Carie-Kroger, will move their family medicine practices to this new building. Dr. Adam Rudolph, a new family medicine physician and Petersburg native currently completing his residency, will join the practice this fall. Minor injuries from crash A Huntingburg man had minor injuries Thursday morning after he fell asleep, and hit a ditch and culvert. Rick Duncan, 51, of Huntingburg, was driving to work at 6:14 a.m. on Highway 61 when he dozed off and ran off the right side of the road in front of the Pike County Highway Department, according to Pike County Depu- ty Sheriff Paul Collier. Duncan's 2006 Jeep Cherokee slamming into a culvert and then a small embankment. Duncan was checked over by EMTs at the scene. Pike County COVID numbers continue to decline By Andy Heuring Pike County COVID num- bers continue to drop, as there were only two new cases re- ported in the last seven days. Those two bring Pike's to- tal number of cases to 1,385. There has not been a death re- ported in Pike County since March 10, 2021. Pike County's seven-day positivity rate is 2.5 percent, which put the county in the blue rating, which is the low- est level. Statewide, the numbers continue to drop. There were no COVID deaths reported on either June 27 or 28 in Indiana. On the five days prior to that, there were four on June 22, five on June 23, two on June 24, three on June 25 and two on June 26. The total number of new cases in Indiana is dropping as well. On June 22, there were 212, then jumped to 255 on June 25, but fell to 133 on June 26 and 132 on June 27, before jumping to 182 on June 28. Still those numbers are far below the numbers being re- corded just a month earli- er, when new cases per day ranged from 658 to 445 during the week of May 22 to May 28. Hospitalizations are down as well. In the last seven days, they started at 447 on June 22, fell to 369 on June 24 and then rose to 407 on June 28. Vaccinations in Pike County are slowing. So far, there have been 5,435 people vaccinated, but only seven have been vac- cinated in the last 24 hours. Pike County has vaccine clin- ics on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The sanctioned class is ITPA 4x4 pro stock gas truck. SATURDAY, JULY 3 The Firecracker parade is set to start at 10 a.m. Riv- er Harbin will be the Grand Marshal. The midway and rides will open at 11 a.m. There will be the Ruritan BBQ chicken and rib dinners, as well as their ice cream stand. Meals are take- out and there will be dining in the air-conditioned dining room. The Firecracker Baby con- test starts at 1 p.m. in the air-conditioned gym. It is for children up to age five.
