B-10 Wednesday, June 30, 2021 The Press-Dispatch Church Note Deadline 10 a.m. Tuesday Methodist Pentecostal Nazarene Presbyterian Wesleyan MINUTES Continued from page 8 apply to many a church today, but the point is that a church is not a building but an assembly of people. The church of which the Bible has most to say is "the Church of God, which He hath purchased with His own blood" (Acts 20 :28), and St. Paul calls the church of this pres- ent dispensation, "the Body of Christ," or "the Church which is His Body" (I Cor. 12:27; Eph. 1:22,23). Men cannot join this Church by water baptism or any other religious rite, but only by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. With regard to believers in Christ, St. Paul declares: "By one Spir- it are we all baptized into one Body" (I Cor. 12:13). And in Rom. 12:5, the Apostle says that "ye, being many, are one body in Christ." Many sincere people have had their names on local church rolls for many years be- fore learning this great truth — that the true Church of God is not a building, but the assem- bly of those who trust in Christ as their Savior. Doubtless, peo- ple in and out of many of the re- ligious organizations we call churches belong to this one great Bible Church, while oth- ers, with all their religious pro- fession, do not. The question is: Have we sincerely trusted in Christ as the Savior who died for our sins? PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the GLITTERS "A kitten, I am sure, could walk on a cloud without fall- ing through" —Jules Verne. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a tiny little Tortie named Glitters. Tortoiseshell cats are of- ten called the divas of the cat world and the reasons are clear. They are sassy, temperamental and fierce- ly loyal. Glitters is quickly living up to these traits and has quite a feisty attitude. Tortoiseshell cats are be- lieved to have psychic abil- ities and can see into the future. They are also be- lieved to bring lots of good luck and money, as well as warding off ghosts and evil spirits. So these should be all the reasons you need to adopt this precious little fur- ball. You must see Glitters to fall in love with her ador- ing looks and unique per- sonality. To adopt Glitters, call PAWS at 812-354-9894. to have several health issues which prevents him from get- ting around much. I have been invited to participate on one of their shows if I want to. I sang my latest little song I wrote and they thought it would fit in as a comedy portion of their show. It is a funny little song and makes you laugh. I have some videos in my pictures and they listened to a couple of them as well. It's a lit- tle late in my life to pursue much exposure in entertaining but it is fun to think about. We took in the "Butterfly Pal- ace" twice and it was fun to feed the butterflies. Nectar made up of orange Gatorade and water makes up a food for the butter- flies and as you hold up your flower on top of the vial hold- ing the food butterflies land on it and take their nourishment. At one time I had two of them on my hat and two on my feed- er. Their lives are short but they sure add lots of beauty for their short time alive. The aquarium is a little differ- ent than most I have visited be- cause they have mazes of mir- rors and a 3D video which takes you on a submarine ride. It on- ly lasted about three and a half minutes but it made you want to do it again, which we did. Since they have miniature golf courses all around the city we were able to play three rounds of miniature golf. We played twice at The Grand Jubi- lee and it was dark there except for some lights along the path- way. You could see the course but it was challenging enough without the dim conditions. I can't tell you about Branson without saying if you need some- where to go to have a good time then consider a trip to Branson. Highway 44 is an adventure in itself because the pace on the road is quick and very busy, but you can make if you just keep your mind on your driving. We got home Friday evening and spent Saturday doing things we hadn't gotten done last week. Now we are more ready to face the world with a new mindset. Sunday school covered edifi- cation and studied about build- ing one another up instead of going the easy way of tearing someone down and ruining their chances of becoming a better person. It also was men- tioned about finding the good in people to build on. Bro. Rich preached to ask God to go ahead of you. He will and He will prepare your path so things might be easier or al- ready taken care of. I always ask you to be a bless- ing to all you meet. Be ready to be a friend. Otwell United Methodist in- vites you to join us this Sun- day at 10 :30 a.m. as we worship our Lord Jesus Christ; Sunday school, 9:30 a.m. "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become ma- ture, attaining to the whole mea- sure of the fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-13, NIV ). Jeff Pinney, Pastor PETERSBURG FREE METHODIST CHURCH 202 Walnut Street Submerged in God's Love is the theme for Vacation Bible School on Saturday, June 12 from noon to 4 p.m. The event is open to children ages 3-7. Lunch and an afternoon full of fun Bible lessons, crafts games, music and more are in- cluded. It is important to dress in clothes that can get wet, be- cause the games will involve water! We are returning to many of our regular activities. We cur- rently meet in person for wor- ship service at 10 :30 a.m. on Sunday. The messages are al- so live on Facebook, or you can watch the message later. Sunday school for all ages re- opens at 9:30 a.m. Location of the classes has changed. We will help you get to the proper classroom. We have also started a new Sunday School class called "The Journey." Jodi Correll is teach- ing. This is not an age-based class. It is a discipleship class designed to help people know Scripture better, and become more like Jesus. Youth Group meets at 5 p.m. on Sunday. It is our goal for our youth group to be service ori- ented. The teens will do a work project at someone's house or other ministry, and have a brief devotional. Families are welcome take part in the service project, but the parents are responsible for their children. The nursery will remain closed for now. We don't believe it is a good idea to allow children of different families to play to- gether at this time. If your child needs to be tak- en out of the service, the nurs- ery can always be used as a place to change your child, or as a cry room. We use every other pew, and ask that you stay socially dis- tanced from those in your pew who you did not come with. We make every effort to ster- ilize our facility between ser- vices. There is a basket as you enter the sanctuary for tithes and offerings. You may also give online through petersburgfmc. org. There is a link to our website on our Facebook page also, and we often put announcements and information on both pages. Peace and joy in the Lord. Laws or love? Businessman John Barrier, unrecognizable in jeans and a T-shirt, cashed a check at his longtime bank. But the teller refused to validate his parking ticket, saying Barrier hadn't made an official transaction. A manager agreed, saying rules were rules. Barrier then performed a ma- jor transaction: withdrawing $1 million and taking it elsewhere. He got his parking ticket vali- dated after all. What a great illustration of the perils of legalism, when man-made laws become more important than people. Jesus re- peatedly healed and "worked" on the Sabbath, much to the dismay of religious leaders. He was concerned about people's hearts, not their appearance. What matters more to you: laws or love? appearance or substance? A heart examina- tion may be in order! Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Mechanics Street Otwell Pastor 812-354-3028 Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.; morning worship at 10 :30 a.m.; 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening wor- ship service. Last week, we explored the reasons why you attend church. This week, we are discussing reasons to be an active church member. The church is far more than just a building. It's a collection of people who share in God's love and serve God together. What does it mean to be ac- tive in church? It means that you worship regularly, and serve God and other members of your community responsibly and faithfully. It also means giv- ing your time, talent and money to further the church's mission in your community and through- out the world. Reasons to be an active church member • Being active helps strength- en your commitment to your faith and your fellow Christians. • Being active helps you to grow as a person. • Being active provides a sense of belonging, fellowship and fulfillment. • Sharing unique gifts helps you and your church grow. Whether it be teaching, work- ing with our hands or provid- ing comfort to others. • Being active gives you the opportunity to provide mor- al guidance for the children in your church and community. • Put your faith into action by leading a worship service or community outreach program. • Being an active member of a church can bring you spiritu- al joy. Become a member today. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter Questions regarding church events, call 812-766 -3344 or mail to: 3555 West State Road 56, Petersburg, IN 47567.
