COACH EYEWEAR Patoka Lake hosts beginners kayak lesson, April 17 Patoka Lake interpretive naturalists will host a kayak lesson for beginners on Sat- urday, April 17 at 12:30 p.m. During the lesson, par- ticipants will get the oppor- tunity to try several differ- ent styles of kayaks and pad- dles. Instructors will also cover the gear needed for a safe trip and the best places to paddle on Patoka Lake. All equipment, including life jackets, will be provided. This event is open to anyone age 12 and older. Cost for the lesson is $5 per person and space is limited. Advance registration is required by calling the Patoka Lake Na- ture Center at 812-685 -2447. The entrance fee of $7 per vehicle for Indiana resi- dents and $ 9 for out-of-state residents is required for the Newton Stewart State Recre- ation Area, Patoka Lake, lo- cated north of Wickliffe on State Road 164. Lady Chargers nip Barr-Reeve 5-4 A three-run sixth inning bumped the Pike Central La- dy Chargers past Barr Reeve for a 5 -4 win after trailing 4-2 in the fifth last Tuesday. The Chargers took advantage of a sixth-inning Barr-Reeve error and scored three runs while staying error free themselves. Chloe Williams pitched six and two thirds innings, allow- ing one run, one home run, striking out nine and walking two. Kenzie Powell went one third inning in relief, allowing two hits, three runs and one walk. Hannah Graber helped herself on the mound with a homerun, but Lady Chargers Williams, Lexie Onyett, Xia Stafford and Avery Hunt coun- tered with one hit each, plus RBIs by Williams and Hunt. In the opening game of the season, Xia Stafford was at the plate, Mallory Hickey, Ken- zie Powell, Lexie Onyett and Karley Kavanaugh in the in- field, and Avery Hunt, Brailey Mills and Alyna Sharp in the outfield, and Hallie Bailey DP. (3) Jus- tin King had a game high-21 points and nine rebounds for the Tropics. The Longshots edged Team Won 51-50, with (0) Trent Barrett with 23 points, six rebounds and one assist for Longshots, and (8) Chantz Parson 14 points, six re- bounds and three assists for Team Won. Team Won bet- tered Harlem Money 74-54, with (42) Cody Thompson with 16 points, two rebounds and three assists. (7) James Hester had 14 points and one rebound for Harlem Money. The Longshots edged the Hypnotoads 52-48, with (0) Trent Barrett leading the way with 22 points and seven re- bounds. (50) Jaden Hayes was the game leader with 25 points and four rebounds. Av- erage Joes notched a 78 -49 win over Harlem Money, as Luke McPhail accounted for 19 points, twos rebounds and one assist. Harlem Money was led by (2) Dustin Hunt with 13 points, five rebounds and two assists. Average Joes got to the cen- tury mark against the Bus- ch Buds 102-48. (6) Luke McPhail had 25 points, two rebounds and two assists, and Trey Wornica netted 24 mark- ers, three rebounds and three assists. The Benchwarmers nipped the Red Angels 69 -67, with (3) Jesse Robling, Jr. scoring 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists, and (32) Dil- lon Robling adding 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Benchwarmers.
