We know it to be part of Jesus' life, but have we ever really medi- tated on the truth of that state- ment? Jesus was raised from the dead. Praise God. Certain- ly, He can be trusted with our lives. "Thank you for the remind- er, Jesus, that the stone was rolled away. I believe it. I be- lieve that all of your promis- es are true. You love me. God is good. Be watchful, and strength- en the things which remain, that are ready to die. The end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. Be so- ber, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roar- ing lion, walketh about, seek- ing whom he may devour. Take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life. The just shall live by faith: but if [any man] draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back un- to perdition, but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. What I say unto you I say un- to all, Watch. Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strength- en thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteous- ness. I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Frank Renner, Pastor Rev. Mark Wade,Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 One of my favorite lines from a book, comes from the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Lucy asks their new friend Mr. Beaver, "Is he safe? " inquiring about this king they had heard of named Aslan. Mr. Beaver, pithy an- swer, "Oh no he's not safe, but he's good." Sometimes I won- der if we are just hoping that life in Christ will be safe. We can come to him, get salva- tion, feel good, and eventual- ly go to heaven when the time comes. However, that's rare- ly the case. Imagine the rich young rule or the other young man who came begging to fol- low Jesus, but once confront- ed by the reality that the fol- lowers of Jesus lacked a bed and shelter, or even that one would have to sell everything he had. The truth is, following Jesus wasn't safe then, and it isn't safe now. Still to this day when he calls a man, he bids him, come and die. Following Jesus means actively dying to ourselves and living for him. We have to decide that there is no safe shallow end follow- ing him. To enjoy a rich life in Christ, we have to cut the rope. Purity is considered smug, but impurity is considered smart-and the consequences of this vicious sin are played down. Satan fails to speak of re- morse, the futility, the loneli- ness, and the spiritual devasta- tion that go hand in hand with immorality. Christ can do only one thing with the sin of impurity - and every other sin. Jesus neither condones sin nor condemns it; He forgives it. He will also cleanse you and give you victo- ry over your sin. Jesus said to the immoral woman, "go and leave your life of sin" ( John 8:11). He says that to you as well, and He never told anyone to do something without offer- ing the power to do it—Pastor Billy Graham. "Among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity... because these are improper for God's holy peo- ple"(Ephesians 5:3). Pastor Graham could have added to this message, that impurities has a lot to do with why we reject Christ (the on- ly unforgivable sin). You see we can make up all kinds of excuses why we don't want to give up our carnal habits or pleasures. Such as there is no God, or He has left us here to care for ourselves, He isn't watching, or He won't see. But only a fool would say or think such a thing. Psalms 14:1, 53:1. The satisfaction we get from our carnal lust only lasts for a little while. While the salvation offered to us from Jesus Christ is life eter- nal. The Bible tells us in He- brews 13:5, Let your conduct be with out covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself said "I will never leave you or for- sake you"—Amen. Sincere Love Although we may doubt the sincerity of people's love, we need never doubt the sincer- ity of God's love for us. Love compelled Him to come to this world in the person of Je- sus Christ and suffer and die on our behalf. It was love that gave Him the victory over death and made Him ascend to heaven where He intercedes for us. It was love that urged Him to for- give our sins and offer us the gift of His Holy Spirit. This world will never know any love greater than that of Jesus Christ. He gave us the example of sincere love and urges us to love as He loved— Walking with God.
