The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, March 31, 2021 C-1 CHURCH Submit church items: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg In October of 2017, our family visited the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, Kentucky. We toured the impressive full-size ark. Of all the things we saw, what I appreciated most was the door. When God gave the instructions for the build- ing of the ark, He told Noah to put one door in the side of the ark: "the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof" (Gen. 6:16). The ark is a picture of Christ. Being in the ark, Noah and his family were safe from the judgment of the worldwide flood. Likewise, being in Christ, we are safe from the ultimate judgment of the lake of fire. He is the "Ark" that delivers us from the judgment of God for eternity. Our world is in turmoil and disasters of every kind are becoming more common. As we search for the cause and the cure for the chaos in socie- ty, we should turn to God. The pandemic, social- ism, deception, and liberalism in our universities all should be a wakeup call. God still speaks to individuals and nations through His Word. The Bible says, "Righteousness exalted a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." Our pop culture, with its emphasis on materialism and selfishness, has left God out in many ways. In many church- es there is an emphasis on self esteem and "feel good" religion. The elite media hammers away day after day on family values and Christianity. The elite ed- ucators, Union bosses, atheists and men like Mi- chael Moore and George Soros have declared war on Christianity. Our nation drifts farther from God as textbooks are rewritten and political correctness is promoted. The enemies of Chris- tianity speak out loud and clear, while Christians are slow to express their concerns. We have seen the mocking of God in our cancel culture and pri- vate lives. We have seen millions aborted and now face the shame of same- sex marriages. We must return to a God who guid- ed our nation's founding fathers and through eco- nomic crisis. Our moral decline is often spoken about in the Bible. God still speaks through His Word and offers for- giveness and restoration to all who repent. God speaks, "If my people, which are called by my Name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways than will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." A couple of our friends and my wife and I enjoyed the peace and quiet life around Kentucky Dam. There is a lot more to see than I realized, but it was still slow paced and sort of relaxing. We all needed the break and I think it did some good for us. We stayed in a three bedroom, two bathroom cottage at Kenlake State Park. We had four delicious breakfasts at the lodge and they were part of the cottage rental. We got there around one or two o'clock and was able to check in early to our cottage. We drove around checking things out and we ate the "Pond Restaurant" and their fish was good along with all you can eat beans and hush puppies. A f- ter we ate we checked out the "Hitching Post" antique shop. We had to go back later and buy something our son wanted after my wife sent him some pictures they had at the store. We must be getting older because we were watching televi- sion by seven o'clock and thinking about going to sleep. The next day we went to the "Elk and Bison prairie" where we had to take a couple of laps through to see any animals. We seen two differ- ent groups of elk and a couple of them got real- ly close to our vehicle. They were used to peo- ple watching them so they didn't pay much at- tention to us. They are lots bigger than our deer here in southern Indiana. A fter we left the prai- rie we ventured to "Green Turtle Bay" and ate one of the family rooms at the bay. You soon learn there are numerous coves and quite a few mari- nas places to leave a boat. The wives wanted to go to Murray to shop and eat out. Murray is spread out and looks like a huge city but only has a little more than 19,000 Continued in next column Continued in next column CHURCH CHURCH Notes Notes Notes Baptist Baptist Baptist Assembly of God RIVER OF LIFE 342 E. Jesus suffered to pay the price for our sins, and because He did, we can find freedom from our sins when we accept Him as Lord and Savior. The troubles and suffering of this life may be many, but they re- mind us of Him and can help point us to the greater glory that awaits us because we have accepted the salvation He paid for on the cross.
