Mark Wade,Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 The other night I was watch- ing a Christmas movie with my wife, and in the movie there was mom, separated from her child, and in a moment of sheer desperation, with gritted teeth told someone; this is Christ- mas. The Season of perpetual hope. Maybe, you're like that. You believe this is a season of perpetual joy and hope, it is Christmas after all, but you say it more in desperation, gritted teeth, barely holding on. You may even be saying it at this point, because you need to con- vince yourself more than any- one else. We have been talking about faith, hope, love, joy, peace, as Christians for al- most two centuries, and now, for most of us, we are being forced to answer the question, did we really believe it? This is the time where the rubber meets the road for the church, and we come to find that we really believe in the hope, the hope of salvation, and the hope of true life of- fered through us in the per- son of Jesus. I believe that if we focus our eyes in this sea- son, on the greatest joy, found in the birth of Jesus, we will learn to tether our hearts to the great hope we have in his life, death, and resurrection. Hope does not put us to shame. DJ Bryant, Pastor VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 Church services have been cancelled this Sunday. Virtue "Virtue consists in doing our duty in the various rela- tions we sustain in ourselves, to our fellowmen, and to God, as it is made known by reason, revelation and providence." The Apostle Peter writes, "For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness, (virtue K JV ), and to goodness, knowledge; and knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, persever- ance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they keep you from being ineffec- tive and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ" (II Peter 1:5 -8). Surely good advice for the year of our Lord 2021. Because He lives. For all the fear and chaos, and evil that is going on in the world today, it seems to be closer to the end times, ac- cording to the Bible. This is why it is so important for those who don't know or have not ac- cepted the freely given gift of Gods salvation. Accept the grace of Jesus today, just by saying and believing in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He died on the cross according to scripture, was buried and God rose Him up on the third day.
