Trusty in second year as owner of REM Bicycle REM Bicycle and Fitness Downtown Jasper By James Capozella A fter a decade-long stint working with Paul Gasser at REM Bicycle and Fitness, Ethan Trusty decided to buy into the bike and repair busi- ness, along with a line of fi t- ness equipment. Located just north of the Jasper Court House Square, REM bicycle has been a staple in the var- ied two-wheel, man-powered genre in the Dubois County region for more than 30 years. Ethan started working for Paul Gasser in 2010 and it was under Paul's guidance that Ethan learned not only the selling and servicing of bikes and fi tness equipment, but al- so how to run a business. Af- ter 30 years in business, Paul retired and Ethan took over ownership of the business. He changed the name to REM Bicycle and Fitness to better communicate all that the busi- ness offers. REM Bicycle Center was started in 1989 in the base- ment of a one-room shop on the southeast corner of the Jas- per Court House Square. Paul, who had grown up as a me- chanic working for his father's business, had a passion for cy- cling, mechanics and helping others. Paul also loved the ben- efi ts that bicycles bring to in- dividual's lives and the posi- tive impact that it can have on a community. These were the foundations that formed the idea of REM. Quickly outgrowing the small room, REM moved to its current location at 804 Main Street in Jasper, just off the square. Since opening, it has been the mission of REM to provide their customers with excellent service and quality bikes. Thirty years later, REM Bicycle and Fitness, continues to make it their mission that every rider has a great expe- rience. In 2019, Ethan Trusty took over as owner after work- ing with Paul for more than a decade. Ethan and his wife, Kenzie, live in Huntingburg, where they raise their two chil- dren Amelia, 5, and Barrett, 1. They enjoy spending time with family, serving in their lo- cal church and going on fami- ly bike rides. It is Ethan and his fami- ly's goal with REM to contin- ue what Paul started back in 1989 and carried on through 2019: that is selling quality bi- cycles and fi tness equipment, and offering excellent service. Ethan strives to do this all for the purpose of honoring God, that He would receive glory from all that is done at REM. Ethan said, "REM Bicycle and Fitness is here to serve their customers and help them with their bicycle and fi tness needs. Visit or contact REM to see how we can help you to- day. We are located two blocks north of the square in Jasper at 804 Main Street." REM offers a wide range of Trek bikes and is your fi tness headquarters for True equip- ment, including treadmills, el- lipticals, stationary bikes and strength equipment. Shop hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. They are closed Thursdays and Sun- days. Ethan can be reached at 812-634-1454.
