This Mid-County location will provide the greater community with safe, functional, outdoor space we all need. Now, more than ever, we all feel a lack of usable outdoor facilities for sports, recreation, community events in our county. We are ramping up the capital campaign to get this project completed. Do you share the vision for a community hub that promotes physical activity and community, so vital to well-being? Contact us at (831) 531-8388 or online at marvistafieldproject.org. Mar Vista Field Project What do you do when you see something is not working? When inpsired, you take action. That is what Wendy Smith, Kiersten Cummings, and Rob Allen have done. The board members of the Mar Vista Field Project (MVFP), each come with their own history and impetus to take action. They see the field as an unsafe impediment for teaching children to rely on physical exertion for well-being. Rob, who attended Mar Vista over 40 years ago, says the field has been a mud pit for as long as he can remember. They all feel this renovation is long, long overdue for children's well-being and community members who want a safe, level, usable, outdoor facility for soccer, baseball, softball, running/walking track and gathering. It is time. It is time to replace the field with a sports facility and track that can endure wet weather with adequate drainage. The field is closed to children when muddy; it is, most often, muddy. Students' emotional and academic well-being is dependent on physical activity. When children can more easily meet behavioral expectations due to the physiological support exertion provides, they are better able to learn and leave learning environments with their "inherent goodness" in tact. One can extrapolate physiological support, being able to "run it out" in elementary school, leading to better long-term outcomes in life/society. Neuroscientist and NYU professor, Wendy Suzuki, reports, "It really has to do with what we know about how the brain works… - -particularly focus, attention and mood…when they run around, their brains are getting a bubble bath of good neurochemicals, neurotransmitters and endorphins. These help memory and mood. A simple burst of exercise helps students focus better, filter what they do and do not need to pay attention to in class." The design for the field is cushioned track surrounding non-toxic turf field with three soccer pitches, Little League baseball diamond, restrooms and snack shed. The cost of the field needs to be banked so ground breaking can happen in May 2021. Mar Vista's students (32% socioeconomically disadvantaged relying heavily on school resources) and Mid-County communities (totaling 3,400 children and thousands more adults) need your support to make a little change that will yield huge longterm results. Sometimes, small hinges really do swing big doors. Contact the Mar Vista Field Project for more information @ (831) 531-8388 or marvistafieldproject.org jacoB's Heart
