The units were taken offline sever- al weeks ago during the start of the pandemic, when demand for electricity decreased. Primary election resembles practice run By Andy Heuring Pike County's version of the 2020 primary election was really more of a practice run to get ready for the general election in November. Be- sides being a month late due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was con- ducted with three voting centers for the first time instead of voting polls in 18 precincts throughout the county. This allows people from any pre- cinct to vote in any of the voting cen- ters located at the Otwell Commu- nity Center, Winslow Communi- ty Center and Gospel Center in Pe- tersburg. There were no locally opposed races. The only races on the prima- ry ballot were the Republican nom- ination for State Representative Dis- trict 75 and Democrat nomination for the US District 8 House of Rep- resentative. There was a 20 percent turnout as 1791 votes were cast out of 8,912 registered voters. In Pike County, Ron Drake won the three-way race for the Eighth District House of Representative Democrat nomination. He garnered 313 votes. Mike Webster was second with 154 votes and Thomasina Mari- li was third with 114 votes. The win- ner will face Republican incumbent Larry Buschon. On the Republican ballot, Michael Griffin had 233 votes to 190 votes for Cindy Ledbetter in the State Repre- sentative Dist. 75 race. The winner will face Democrat John Hurley. District-wide results were not available by press time in either of those races. In other races the totals are: REPUBLICAN President Donald Trump 1,032 Bill Weld 39 Governor Eric Holcomb 1,027, US 8th District Larry Bucshon 1,001 State Rep.
