Though there was a season of my life, like ma- ny, I lived with a small view of prayer. But as a pastor I have learned that prayer is more meaningful than we know. Paul encourages us to pray without ceasing. Indicat- ing that prayer is more than just a lifeline you get thrown while drowning, it's a way of life. Communicating with the father. Paul also tells us to be anxious about nothing but to give our concerns to God through prayer. Likewise, Pe- ter tells us to cast away our troubles at his feet because he cares for us. Prayer is a way of life, we cannot neglect it, for the glory of God and the good of our own souls. So, let's commit to pray and pray for the ordinary. Let's pray for our spouses and our families. Let's pray for our church and the mission God has given us. Let us pray that God would give us new life and love for the church. Let us never stop praying for spe- cific people we want to see connected to Jesus, connect- ed to the church, and experi- ence real life change. Let us commit to making prayer our way of life. "Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, 'Come, let us go over to the garrison of these un- circumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few'" (I Samuel 14:6). These words are well worth remembering when we start to ask ourselves what effect only one person can make. God rarely uses a large number of people. In general, one person is all that God needs to make big things happen. Even if my actions only in- fluence one person, that per- son was worth the effort. A f- ter all, Jesus would have died just for you or me if we were the only one to accept His saving grace. Thankfully, we will have many brothers and sisters in Christ that will also be saved. May the Lord grant that many more come to a rela- tionship with Him before His return for judgment.
